I am thinking of a scene in an old B&W Japanese movie (maybe “Ugetsu Monogatari”) where a woman in a kimono with those high, painted eyebrows that seem typical of Heian court ladies (they look like thumbprints in the middle of her forehead) laughs the stereotypical “fu fu fu fu” in kind of a ghostly voice, maybe with her face half concealed by her hand or a fan. She is either a slightly deranged/evil woman or a spirit.
