I’m sure there were better terms to use than “Blowout”. In my consumer mind, it makes me think, new car:blowout:crappy tires:crappy car.

We apparently did everything right when buying our Corolla then! Yay us! And we’re very happy with Car-ie. I wish it wasn’t silver, though; every second car is a small silver one. I’ve put tattoos on it to help distinguish it.

Rick forgot rule #6:* “Never buy a car from a Toyota dealer”*. Nice cars, but the biggest crooks in the business.

HaHA - we got that one right, too - we bought our Corolla from a Honda dealership!

That’s funny, the aforementioned Great Deal[sup]TM[/sup] I got was at a Toyota dealer. It depends upon your negotiation tactics - I had essentially pitted him against the dealer on the other side of town.

Please be specific. What do Toyota salesmen do that others don’t?

Not much. But they take every dirty trick in the business, use them all, and elevate them to a fine art.

They will ass thinsg to your invoice you didn’t want, hardsell you on things no one wants, “forget” to add things you want and paid for, cheat you on your trade-in, promise you one price but then tell you they can’t deliver, and more.

For years, as long as CR rated “satisfaction with the deal”, Toyota rated dead last.

They also insult you when they call back a week after you told them you were not interested in the car and you found a better deal (I actually was nice and called the salesdroid a week previous to let him know I wasn’t interested in the car, and if he could find another customer for it, not to feel guilty “selling it out from under me”, I never recieved a followup call from him, not until a week later

Jerk Toyota Salesdrone (JTSD); "Mr. white, this is I.M. Douchebag calling from <anytown> Toyota, I was wondering if you were still interested in that used Scion xB?

MacTech; Sorry, Mr. 'Bag, I DID call you last week and left you a message that I was not interested in that car, I found a different car that was a much better deal

JTSD; oh…okay, what kind of car did you find?
MT; '07 Saturn Ion, with 0% financing, brand new
JTSD; oh, okay, <snarky> i hope you won’t be dissapointed when it fails on you
MT;…what?
JTSD; nothing, so you’re not interested?
MT; No…
JTSD; oh, okay, hope you won’t be dissapointed with your Saturn…
MT; I won’t, goodbye <click>

that toyota dealer won’t be getting my business, insulting customers (or potential customers) is not a good way to do business, unless you’re employed by the Argument Clinic…

Real fun. A couple years ago the dealers put a clause in their sales contracts that prevents you from suing them. If you feel you have a lemon or they are screwing you over you have to submit to an arbitration board for approval. it is their board and you will lose.
At least thats what an internet article I read a couple days ago said. Just another way auto companies have to make you love them. Read your contract thoroughly

Well, anyway, I’ll just echo what some other posters have said: if you are buying new, determine what you want before ever contacting a dealer, work out what you’ll accept as a fair price, line up your financing beforehand, solicit bids by E-mail or fax from several dealers, and tell any that insist you have to come in to talk to get stuffed. Worked for me last time I bought a new vehicle and should work again next year when I’m ready to shop again. Good luck to the OP.

I agree wholeheartedly with the comments about Toyota. Sneaky, evil people who act as if the customer is even more stupid than they are. I asked for a price on a Yaris without the $630 package that includes the radio and the guy told me that getting an aftermarket radio installed would void my warranty. Stupid, stupid car salesmen.

After reading the advice here, I settled on one car, no options and 3 days ago asked 13 dealers for quotes. So far, seven have come back with numbers, the rest have sent form letters telling me to come in so they can harass me in peron. Tonight, I’m going to ask them to beat the lowest price I’ve gotten and see what happens. Rinse and repeat, until nobody comes back with a better price. Sound like a plan?
