Well don’t just sit there graspin’ your hand in pain, lay some education on our asses!
I just want to get in early on the ‘Fuck Adrian Peterson’ bandwagon…
Michael Vick served his time and went back to the NFL. Ray Rice can play again after he serves time, as if it’s up to me, 'cause clearly no one is rushing to throw his butt in jail, if he is qualified to do so.
I stated I thought he belonged in jail. That is irrespective of where he works. If you assault people, if you abuse your spouse/partner, you should go to jail.
As far as to why he got shitcanned, since that seems to be getting pulled into this, I assume he got shitcanned because he had a morals clause, and folks considered immoral for him to punch his lady. In a world of “at will” employment, one probably ought not to take actions on video considered criminal. Right now now, he’s probably unemployable almost anywhere. Again, not my fault and not my problem. If he works on it, he’ll climb out of this gutter. Why I should care is beyond me entirely.
My post is about an hour earlier…
What a frikkin asshole.
I watched the video. A couple of light slaps doesn’t merit two punches, the second one of which knocked her out.
I could possibly see, if she really full-out attacked him, him reflexively lashing out. But the video doesn’t indicate this. What is most appalling is his almost total indifference after cold-cocking her. He mostly just stands there without making the slightest attempt to see how badly she might be hurt. This isn’t the behavior of someone who was just trying to defend himself and inadvertently did more damage than he intended. This is the behavior of a total asshole.
It’s been done to death, most recently in the other Rice thread, but for those who still live under a rock out in the middle of nowhere, search Google for “Stockholm Syndrome.” That’s close enough comparably to explain things to those who still. just. don’t. get. it.
Woman.
That’s sexist, unless perhaps we were talking about abusive lesbians, which we weren’t.
Oh take your self-righteous blather and shove it. My friends and I refer to ourselves as girls, or even -gasp- chicks! all the time. Guess we’re anti-feminist.
The word “cunt” shouldn’t be considered any worse than “dick”, and quite frankly, treating it like it that way is what’s sexist, not the word itself.
No, the poster is from Ireland, I’m from the UK. “cunt” in these countries is most definitely not a sexist term. If anything it is used pretty much exclusively to describe…well…a male cunt, one displaying cuntish behaviour. Ray Rice is pretty much a dictionary definition of a cunt.
I don’t throw the term around lightly as it is the highest form of abuse in my verbal arsenal, but if I don’t use it for Ray Rice then when will I ever use it?
Don’t bother trying to explain yourself to OurLordPeace. He’s only posting to let people know how much better he is than them, he doesn’t actually have anything useful to contribute.
Giraffe Girl, you cun’t be serious!
Would you call Ray Rice a boy?
I agree, but you’ll notice that Ray Rice is male-bodied.
So is it fine to use “gay” as a pejorative, even if you don’t have a problem with gay people, or use “pimp” as a term for a suave man, even if you don’t endorse all the awful things that pimps do?
It’s not about me.
Learn the differences in culture. In Britain and Ireland, “cunt” is just another insult, like “fucker”, or “asshole”. It’s not considered to be specifically male or female.
Sure, why not? Dude, boy, what’s the difference?
And? I can’t call a woman a dickhead? Besides, why did you have to put lesbian abusers – why not just plain old female abusers?
See my response to NoveltyBobble. Is it OK to use “Jew” or “Gyp” as verbs, just because it’s a custom in some circles?
Speaking of differences in culture, it was once routine to call adult black men “boys” as a way of demeaning and infantilizing them. It happens once in the film Casablanca, where neither the character nor the screenwriter seem to have any malicious intent, but it’s nevertheless very wrong and awkward to modern audiences.
You certainly can (and nobody can stop you), but it wouldn’t make much sense. As for the lesbians, I had just been thinking about some campaigns to raise awareness of violence in same-sex relationships, and I made an oversight.
:smack:
You walked right into OurLordPeace’s clever little trap. By agreeing to Gender Symmetry in a casual expression, you’ve logically proven that calling a woman girl is no different than calling a black person the n-word. Way to go, Guin.
Interesting. I hadn’t even drawn that exact conclusion. I just wanted to point out something that’s similarly inappropriate, for similar reasons.
And we’re all grateful for it. You’re a wonderful person, fixing sexism and racism on the Internet for everybody.
