Fuck the Scott Peterson Trial

I suspect to stayed in the news because the crime was so heinous and Scott himself is extremely hot. Photogenic men suspected of horrific cromes make good tabloid fodder.

Scott Petersen’s first day in prison would make for an entertaining episode of Oz.

This just in…He’s guilty! All fuckin right!

For once, I’m thoroughly content to have been ignorant of this the whole time. Flipping channels when the news about this came on, scrolled passed it online, deleted e-mails about it. I know of the names, Scott Peterson, Laci (?), and something about a juror. That’s it. That’s all I’ll ever know. I am choosing ignornace for once, and I think it’s a good thing.

Hold on just a second.

The trial concludes. The jury goes in to deliberate. The jury cannot come to a decision right away and warns that it is deadlocked. The very next day juror #11 is booted. The day after, juror #6 is booted. 3 days later, we have a guilty verdict.

Doesn’t it seem at all fishy to you? It does to me.

Is this how we are to treat future high-profile murders going forward? Public wants a guilty verdict, and with a potentially hung jury we scrutinize the jurors who cannot agree with the majority and boot them off of the panel? Fuck that.

The prosecution had weak evidence from the start, all of it for the most part refutable by testimony and experts. Scott Peterson may in fact be guilty, but this verdict doesn’t seem like a solid verdict to me. Not only that, but it sets a horrendous precedent going forward. If I was the prosecution, I would definitely NOT consider this a win.

I’m pretty sickened.

Dude, one juror was removed because she was doing her own research on the case. It’s against the rules, and that’s why she was removed.

The foreman was removed for unknown reasons.

This is hardly a case of removing jurors “willy-nilly” because they have a minority viewpoint.

I think it’s pretty presumptuous to question to verdict without knowing the facts the jurors had presented to them. And it’s still a little early for those to come out.

According to the judge presiding, one juror was dismissed for doing independent research on the case – a no-no. No reason on the other one, but you have to believe that we’ll find out now that the verdict has been entered, and the jurors can now talk to the media.

If it turns out there wasn’t enough evidence, I believe we’ll know that soon enough. But I think it’s a little early to scream “kangaroo court” without people telling you to put the tinfoil away, and I’m doing just that right now.

Uh nope, the jury can not talk yet, they are still under a gag order until after they return and go through the penely phase and he is sentanced.

My bad.

penalty phase too. Geeze.

I haven’t said it’s a kangaroo court, and I respectfully request that any thoughts you have on “tin foil hats” be abolished. I firmly believe that Geragos will be screaming bloody murder about this, and we’ll all see what shakes out.

Sam

No offense intended. You have to admit, however, that your first post seems a little thick on the “DANGER WILL ROBINSON!”, considering you and I don’t know all the facts that were presented in the courtroom.

I’m just advising you to wait until we know all those facts before you feel sick about the decline of the American judicial system.

My friend’s family lives there, and her dad is a sheriff in the jail building. You wanna talk about someone who’s fucking releived:smiley:

Oh, and one other thing: Geragos has been screaming bloody murder since the get-go about EVERYTHING, and I seriously doubt his indignation will make one iota of difference.

But hey, I’ve been wrong before. Two posts ago, in fact, as Ayesha pointed out.

He may scream, but I’m betting the verdict will stand. As I said in another thread, the judge in this case was pulled out of retirement by the Supreme Court specifically to hear this case because of his experience in high profile cases. I suspect he’ll have airtight decisions for those juror removals. Especially since we know for sure that one was definately for misconduct.

What trial were you watching dude? Garragos put two, count 'em two experts. One who tried to contend that the missing concrete was spead on Scotts driveway and the rain blended in in somehow, and a gynecologist that was laughed all the stand. I’ll give you that some of the ervidence could be interpreted differently pro-prosecution or pro-defense, but in a case you’re to look at the totality of the case. In fact in one instance Garragos actually harmed the defense narrowing the timeframe that Lacy could have been abducted by strangers.

I swear I previewed.

should have of course read

Actually, I think that gaWd has a point here. I was waiting on a mistrial to be declared, and then WOOMP. Guilty. I’m glad of it because I’ve always felt he was guilty of a truly heinous crime, but this turd hasn’t reached the processing plant just yet.

What is all this talk about lack of evidence and the prosecution hasn’t proven their case?

There is no reasonable doubt!

Guilty!

No shit, Sherlock…he’s a high-profile defense attorney. It’s part and parcel of who he is and of his profession.

Stuffy- I’m pretty sure we’ve paid attention to the same case, yet different stories played by the local news. As I’ve said in every thread about the Scott Peterson case since Laci disappeared, he’s probably guilty, but the case as presented by the prosecutors is IMO so weak that I couldn’t vote him for the needle, or even guilty. And now 2 jurors booted…despite the jurist’s experience makes me :dubious:

We’ll see how this one turns out…in a few years after the appeal and whatnot.

Sam

I agree with this part of your post to a large extent, though I think the prosecution came on strong at the end. Up until two or three weeks before the prosecution rested, I was wondering if Geragos would even put on a defense, but they got better. The juror thing makes my WTF radar go up too; it’ll be interesting once they can talk.

And for the record, I think he did it. I’m trying to divorce that opinion from what I know about the case in court.

Am I the only one noticing that a thread which started as a rant against the pervasiveness of the damned Peterson trial has become a Peterson trial discussion thread? Am I the only one driven to the brink of madness by this?

Gaaaah!

Leave it! Resist your morbid curiosities! Live your own lives! Can you not see that this trial has ZERO relevance to you? Do not be drawn into the vortex! Resist!
