Isn’t he the guy Joe Friday talked about on Dragnet?
Today was the first day of school for a pot of peeps. I asked my kid in second grade if he saw the eclipse, he said no they stayed in the gym after lunch.
I suspect they kept the kids in to keep them from staring at the sun. The reactionary part of me says 'WHAT??? Stop nanny stating my kids! Let them go outside no matter how cold or hot it is!"
But i’m definitely not surprised.
*EditL Obviously I looked at the sun.
Of course it is on Google.
All the schools in our area that are inside the totality had outside assemblies and distributed glasses. Not sure what the ones just outside it did.
At least one local school (outside the totality) cancelled classes because so many students and teachers had taken the day off.
Now there’s a sight that could make people go blind!
…I always like natural events, somewhat of a payoff for working and playing outside alot .
I would love to see the full diamond halo someday. Today Santa Barbara was cloudy, but I glanced up from work and saw a substantial bite of the sun.
Something not mentioned much, but during the crescent phases, when the shadow is moving over the sun, everywhere you look around you… where the sun is hitting, (if you have any natural vegetation over head…) there are crescents of sun EVERYWHERE. They are formed by leaves crossing, or holes in leaves. Its takes a little searching to find the correct angle, but its basically a free pinhole camera. Or thousands of them.
We have a zillion palm trees here, and their fronds were perfect for this. Its kind of freaky, once you see all these crescents of sun:eek:
Makes me wonder why normally you wouldnt see the round sun images on everything…maybe the images blur together? Anybody know this?
Hey! My wife is from Buffalo, too! Been there a few times, and I do like it. (Ted’s hot dogs and beef on weck FTW!) My concern is figuring out where has the best chance of clear weather on an April day. I’m guessing not there, but I have almost seven years to figure it out and decide.
Say folks, there’s this new plant on my deck after the eclipse. Looks kinda cool and all, but this is the first plant I’ve ever seen that bites. What should I do with it?
I’m Worried sick about how this will effect my Horoscope. That Astronomy stuff is just silly.
I stared at the eclipse for a full hour, and it was breathtaking. Everything looks like a lava lamp now, but my Chinese-made goggles were ‘approve by NASSA’ so I’m not worried.
Feed it a steady diet of dentists.
Yeah, we did the beef on weck a couple of times; once at Schwabl’s. Good sandwich, but would really benefit from au jus. Had wings at Anchor Bar. I’ve had better, but they were serviceable and there have to be a half million dollars in motorcycles decorating the place. Also a Polish platter at Polish Villa II with sausage, pierogi and golabki. Came back on the plane with a cold bag containing smoked kielbasa, pierogi, horseradish, Pickalilli relish, etc. The flight attendant had to wonder why we kept asking for cups of ice and returning cups of water to her.
And the TSA didn’t confiscate it? They are idiots.
My entire family is from Buffalo. I was born there, as were both of my parents and my dad’s mom and dad and mom’s mom (my mom’s dad, however, was born in Sicily).
And I have a very large family… they’re all crammed in and around Buffalo all the way as far East as Rochester.
I should have known Chefguy had connections to Buffalo, though, because him and I are both descended from William Bradford.
That sounds like it would make a great photo. I hope someone, out of the millions who had cameras and phone-cameras poised today, saw it, snapped it, and will post it online.
Oh! Do you know the Wilsons?
Heres some leaf pics.
That’s MY joke!
