I’m resurrecting this thread just to point out that last night Lyoto Machida knocked Randy Couture out with a flying front kick straight out of Karate Kid and latter credited Steven Seagal for helping him train the move. Seagal was in attendance along with Lyoto’s trainers and friends. It was equal parts amazing, unbelievable and hilarious.
P.S. Anderson Silva was standing right next to Seagal when the kick happened and you can see them both cheering like crazy.
One of the Hallmark’s of this is stance… Called nekoashi dachi. Then falling into a Pyramid Zenkutsu dachi for follow up. Couple of Kata out there that contain the internal essence and passing of the secret of this attack.
Segal at least has some self awareness about the way people feel about him, and the Man was indeed a top level fighter back in the day. what is so surprising about his training of others?
yeah I know hes claiming to have worked on a twist to an old kick…like 40 years ago. maybe it wasnt all that popular back then and is now?
I usually give the dude a pass after that movie where he dies in the first 20 minutes (the greatest Segal flick EVER) and his work in “Machete” was pretty funny too.
The fact is, everything old will become new again. What he is imparting are secrets old as the hills. Kung Fu as translated from Chinese Islands to the Okinawans heading North into Japan and settling into a New Science of Japanese Karate (Aikido)as learned and transmitted traditionally to Steven Seagal through a succession of Masters.
