For all of you telling me to “calm down”, point taken. I will. However, you’ll notice that I haven’t replied since December 29th, and you’re still telling me to calm down.
Isn’t the POINT of this site to “fight ignorance”? Definition of “ignorance” at MSN Encarta:

I would guess that it’s all subjective. There’s no right or wrong answers to what is ignorant. I truly believe that the American media who began reporting that the cow came from a Canadian farm was VERY premature. Furthermore, I can’t understand how such savvy people haven’t heard those reports. Furthermore I can’t understand how you don’t think that the ban on exports of your beef (be it only the undisputed 10%) wouldn’t have a significant effect on your country’s economy, and the news that the cow came from Canada wouldn’t alleviate that situation in the least.
I believe that what your media has done is the equivalent of “falsely shouting fire in a [crowded] theatre”. See First Amendment. The parallel may be easier seen when you realize what kind of financial gains/losses are at stake.
THEREFORE!!! I truly believe that those of you who take the reports at face value, without question (even when American & Canadians authorities’ reports aren’t conclusive), are IGNORANT. And I am doing my “duty” here to fight ignorance. If you haven’t heard such reports, which is highly unbelieveable but ok, then WHY ARE YOU REPLYING? If you haven’t heard the reports, then you don’t know! It obviously doesn’t mean they don’t exist. If they didn’t, there wouldn’t be such a numerous amount of replies.
Yes, I came off like a flaming mad woman. Guess why? Cause I’m a flaming mad woman when it comes to these things. I can’t understand … no scratch that … I can’t SWALLOW how some people see things that appear so clear to me in SUCH an opposite manner. It also bothers me how the American superiority complex has people so blinded that they can’t see straight. The fact that it was SO PREDICTABLE was even more maddening. As I’ve said before, my fiance and I even JOKED about the mad cow case, saying “How long til they blame Canada?” You know, that South Park skit was really funny. But there’s a little bit of truth in everything that’s funny. What’s not funny is you don’t see that. The fact that America comes ON TOP of everything in the news is “normal” to you and you don’t look further is very disturbing.
I would like to underline that I do not speak for all Canadians (just the majority of the ones I know). I apologize if I’ve offended any Americans; I hope you realize it’s nothing personal. However, my opinions remain (mostly) the same, even now in a much calmer state.
In closing, I want to make clear that my objections were not because I believed that it was impossible the cow was contaminated in and/or came from Canada. I objected to the fact that it was still undetermined, yet American media was fast to report that it was from Canada (for what I believe are financial and gang-mentality reasons). Even today, though it may appear in the news that it’s a done deal, it isn’t.

Fair enough. But that still doesn’t justify throwing a tantrum at people on a message board. The issue at hand is not so significant as to incite raging vitriol, at least not to me.
It just rather shocked me to see people get so angry over a relatively minor issue. There’s been a lot of squabbling lately over trade issues and the lumber industry, but still the sheer rage over this seems a bit uncalled for, even with the past issues between the two countries.
