Pope Hutton sounds like a complete nutter to me, with his “certain conspiracy theories”.
Best to ignore the man. And his son’s movie.

This all reminds me of Last Temptation of Christ. People who had never seen the movie were out protesting it. Might as well let others feed you your opinions since it seems so much easier than creating them yourself.
The Long Road, I don’t think it’s that simple.
As has already been stated, the movie uses a character’s (historically inaccurate) gayness as a storytelling shortcut to telegraph to the audience that he is a villain.
It also depicts an interpretation of the crucifixtion that has been passed around like a deck of cards, namely that the Jews, as an entire people, were baying for Jesus’ blood, and are therefore responsible for his death.
These are both devices that have been used to justify oppression for years. It is a fact that they were included in cuts of the film that were screened to the public. Unless Mel put some kind of HUGE “reset” at the end of the film, it’s obvious he’s using these devices in their traditional sense. If not, everyone who has seen the film except him was whooshed. Now let’s employ Ockham’s Razor, shall we?
What? I thought The Juice killed Jesus, but had promised to find the real killers after Johnny Cochran got him off.
The first time I read this, the brain parsed it into Willem Dafoe. The second time Samuel L Jackson. Granted it’s Quentin himself saying the line, but Dafoe intrigues me here.
Can’t decide which is better.

The Long Road, I think I’m going to employ *Hanlon’s *Razor here.
The fact that Gibson’s father is an anti-semite, the fact that Gibson gave that elusive answer about the holocaust, is enough to keep my money in my pocket and NOT line mr.Gibson’s purse.
*FYI: I’m not Jewish. I’m not religious at all. Just afraid of another anti-Semitist wave. And sick and tired of Anti-Zionists who play the oppressed, when we all can see [today’s bombing of another bus in Jerusalem] who the victims really are.
But maybe the left-wingers on your side of the ocean haven’t got their eyes forcedly opened, like we do, huh. *
I’m inclined to agree with gum.
Mel is one of my favorite actors, and directors, but his fundamentalist turn of late is rather sad. I saw the Diane Sawyer interview and he gave an appropriate answer to the complaints about his dad by not commenting and saying “He’s my Dad” and glaring at Diane to drop it-- meaning: ‘my relationship with my dad is nobody’s business, so fuck off, I’m not gonna answer any of this and risk causing a rift between me and him.’ (but what the hell was with his manic behavior during the interview!!! Mel, take your lithium for chrissakes! Jesus!)
I’ll probably break down and rent the Jesus flick when it comes out on video just for the gratuitous violence (who doesn’t like a good crucifixion scene?), but again, Mel (et. many many al.) always fuck up when they try to portray a metaphorical life into a literal history.
Fundies are so sadly ignorant. Always ‘munching on the menu instead of the meal.’
I’ll start out by saying I don’t give a flying fuck if any single person on the planet goes to see this movie. If everyone wants to stay home and put ground glass in their anus instead of seeing this movie, I’ll be the first one to congratulate all of you. I have no plans on seeing the movie now or in the future. I’m simply commenting on the robotic method by which a chosen few complain about something and others pick up the battle cry without knowing what the actual issue is.
Leader: This is bad. Hate this.
Sheep: We are sheep, we follow your commands.
Works on both sides of the fence, right and left.
Now, what the fuck are you referring to about concerning my side of the ocean?
Anyone in Europe really needs to look at home for anti-Semitism. It doesn’t look like this movie is going to start a new wave of anti-Semitism since it’s already going on.
The Long Road That must have been a lot of work, all those linky-links.
Will you get something in your gladiola-brain? I know all that. [search my post about anti-semitism in Europe]
Sheep are those that have the wool pulled over their eyes by the likes of mr. Gibson and Gibson sr.
I wonder what your perception of left-wing is? Leader says: bad Jews - Sheep says: Ah, okay. Wouldn’t want to spoil the trend?
Well; Have I got news for you, ignoramus, Left-wing on my side of the ocean are way past that trend. We recognize the danger of the new anti-semitism. Which is more than can be said about all who go see the bloody movie.
I’m glad you’re not one of them. Don’t let the glass hurt you.
Please post where I said anything specific to the left-wing…or the right-wing…or any wing for that matter or politics or anyones religious beliefs.
Please post why you reacted on [mine] “But maybe the left-wingers on your side of the ocean haven’t got their eyes forcedly opened, like we do, huh”
Which has nothing to do with my request for you to quote where I mentioned anyone’s political or religious beliefs. I guess instead of addressing what I said, it’s easier to throw around insults like a schoolyard child and try to twist the issue. None of my comments involved politics or religion. You brought up the United Stated vs Europe issue concerning anti-Semitism and I responded to that. Now, if you stretched anything I posted into me taking a swipe at the left-wing, right-wing, Jews or Israel, I’ll follow your lead in apply Hanlon’s Razor and attribute your comments to stupidity and not malice.
So you finally found the definition of Hanlon’s razor?
Throw around insults? Schoolyard child as well, huh. posted by The Long Road:
? Very mature.
Your request for me to quote where you mentioned anyone’s political or religious beliefs, has nothing whatever to do with my OP. Try to read next time.
