Fuck you, Rowan County (KY) Clerk Kim Davis

This is where progressives have to concentrate their energies first and foremost: local elections. The conservatives have been dominating this battlefield for years. It’s time we change that.

Let us know if you find a good link.

This seems like the correct place

I donated (with glee) last night.

The “actual fucking lawyer” was correct that attorney’s fees are generally only awarded to prevailing parties when the underlying suit (or defense) was frivolous. Unfortunately, BigT thought that if 2 + 2 = 4, 2 + 3 must also equal 4.

I had to laugh that the guy who’s running against her sat down at her desk to file the paperwork to run against her. The photo was perfect.
(Unfortunately, the link is to Fox News)

Hey there, Bible fans! As you were travelling to Ark Encounter in Kentucky, did your bus happen to go over an unusually large speed bump? If so, it was probably Kim Davis after Governor Matt Bevin threw her under the bus.

Despite his previous gushing support for her, Bevin now says Davis must foot the bill for her legal fees.

So…who wants popcorn?

I’m sure she’ll have no trouble raising the dough thru GoFundMe or one of those anti-gay “Family Council” (whatever) groups.

That pizza joint in Indiana pulled in 4 or 5 times that much from the Leviticans. She can get it too.

Oh Kim, Kim, Kim…whatcha gonna do about Kim…

I prefer to do without Kim.
Hee hee hee…Kim’s not gonna get it for free…

Nitpick: they’re fighting over who should have to pay the plaintiffs’ legal fees (that is, the couples who sued her). Her own defense was provided by professional religious assholes Liberty Counsel pro bono.

Yeah, it may be tougher for fundies to give her CrowdFund support if they know it’ll be lining the pockets of The Gayz.

+1

Is Kim Davis in any way personally liable for the plaintiffs’ legal fees if the state doesn’t cover it?

I’m reading this more as Bevin saying “we may have lost, but be damned if we’re going to pay for it”.

I don’t know the answer to that, but while I’m here I’d like to say: Fuck you, Kim Davis. I hope things are going very poorly for you in your life generally, and that you are suffering from some kind of grievous physical pain that just can’t be stopped.

Maybe. But now he’s defining “we” to not include Davis.

Bumped.

Clarence and Alito are still objecting to the Obergefell ruling that says that states cannot outlaw same sex marriage, calling it a violation of the religious rights of anyone who objects on religious grounds and who, by virtue of their job, has to participate.

Any county who has such employees and wants to establish a workaround so they don’t have to participate in the process can always do so (e.g. have an alternate person who can act as clerk in such cases) if they are willing to absorb the expense. Blame the counties for not having such arrangements, don’t blame the law. But these justices seem to want a system where one relevant person’s objection can prevent anyone in the county from getting married. That’s not rule of law, it’s rule of superstition.

How many more religious nutcases on the SCOTUS before someone will successfully challenge Obergefell?

Uhh, one?
