Whatever. I think you have such a closed mind that it’s probably useless to continue. But like Cecil, I will try to fight ignorance wherever I can.
You place absolutely no blame whatsoever on the spending side that has driven us to the brink. A spending side that, in the last 4 years, has been driven your buddies in Congress.
And the fact that you cannot understand that it’s not just the wars that are unfunded, it’s everything, is not surprising I guess. Wouldn’t want to let reality get in the way of some good emotionalism, right? Remember, Bush lied, people died, no blood for oil, etc. etc.
By the way, how much of a deficit are you suggesting the 2001 and 2003 tax cuts were responsible for? Numbers, please. I could give you the answer but I’m hoping you can come up with it yourself, perhaps you’ll learn something.
Take off the binders. The Bush tax cuts account for 3.9 trillion dollars if deficits and it was well known what the result would be when the idiot passed it. http://www.cbpp.org/cms/index.cfm?fa=view&id=1811
Here is the info, but I am sure you won’t be able to learn a damn thing.
Your tone made it sound like you were facing immanent Republican representation shudder
I’m not going to hold you to a higher standard than the one for myself. I only felt responsible for my local area, so I suppose I was too hasty with you.
That was just an example. You’d have to give up something to have a meaningful impact. Now it is voter registration season- I might be able to send you names of some organizations that are involved with that if you’re interested.
Anyway, I still think you are out of line to hate America itself for this. AFAIK you are a lawyer, and therefore should know as well as anyone else that powerful people have been dumbing down populations since before the founding of the country. People apparently are easily led- all we need to do is turn that fact to our advantage. This is potentially easier for Dems since the Pubbies are such bald-faced liars.
Yeah, I am. Barrett and Feingold lost; they just didn’t lose because of *my *county. Current incompetent Milwaukee County Executive Scott Walker is going to be the governor, and rich nobody teabagger Ron Johnson is replacing the incomparably amazing Russ Feingold as Senator.
If you insist, why then of course you can hate them.
This reminds me of a little demonstration I put on when I worked with some JD kids (don’t take that the wrong way). I held up a pen or something and said, “Ok, you guys hate this pen. I’m going to drop it, and you just totally hate it that the thing falls and hits the ground. Okay? 1, 2, 3, Hate It!”
It doesn’t make any difference. The pen falls exactly the same whether you hate it or not. Yeah, maybe you burst a capillary and are a bigger retard than before, congratulations, but otherwise no effect.
It is the same with the voters. You gotta get real about how our system works. People vote. The votes get counted. The winner is declared and they take office. Getting pissed off after stage 3 isn’t going to accomplish anything. Getting pissed off before stage 1, going out into the neighborhoods and getting in everyone’s grill about Prop xxx or candidate xyz… why then you can influence voters to vote your way, and it actually can make a difference.
Do it with an organized group. If there isn’t one, start one. Don’t attempt it alone, and don’t take all the credit. But don’t hate America either. Shit, that’s what Britain’s for
That’s why I learned long ago not to take the results of political elections personally, as I mentioned in this thread quite a while ago. Way back in 1984 I was on the losing side of the Reagan/Mondale election, and that was a much bigger defeat than the Democrats suffered this year.
While I still support the Democrats I don’t base my life, happiness, and well-being on their being successful. Just as it’s prudent to diversify investments to protect yourself from unforseen economic issues, I have arranged my life so that no matter who is in power, I prosper.
