I thought from the thread title you’d received 25,000 pieces of spam overnight, and I thought to myself, “Wow, well I guess there’s at least one person on the damn planet who gets more junk email than I do!”
It’s been something akin to 150 days since New Years, though, so you’re only getting an average of 167 pieces per day which…
you may yet be getting more than I do. I got 132 pieces in 16 hours in a random sample.
Several times, my spam filter has snagged some genuine email from posters at the SDMB. That is, I KNOW of several times when this has happened. If someone uses a lot of HTML in their email, it’s likely to end up in my spam filter. I know that several times I’ve opened an email with no subject line because the sender’s email address looks like it MIGHT be a poster’s.
However, these days, I no longer scrutinize my spam filter’s catch. If it doesn’t say SDMB in the subject, and I don’t recognize the sender, it gets deleted. Life is too short to open spam.
I have two email accounts. One is just for friends and the other is the one I use when I have to put an email address on forms, or when requesting info or whatever.
The email for friends has never had a single spam sent to it.
The other has hundreds of those things from Vicki or Alan or Connie with subject titles like “Xtend Yur Peeenis” or “Faarm Girlz Slutzz Wantt Ewe” (so you can’t block certain words if you can spell).
Come on, someone must know a hacker who can write a program that we can use to respond to those spammers that will blow up those servers!
