I got to college and even though I love thse school I think it is great. I really hate getting jerked around. I know that every school does this that is why I usually don’t get too upset. But here is my current problem.
I am going into my senior year. me and my three best freind got an on campus appartment for the School. We also all took summer classes and we got a apartment for the summer to. We were supposed to be in the same room all three semesters Summer Fall and Spring. But they to do work on the apartment during the summer so no one is living there. Ok I can understand that. Now it is the end of the summer semester. We asked if we could just move our stuff from one apt to the other since they are right next door. What did the mother fucker say? No only if I could come up with documented poroof that there was no other way could I do this. Now we have to moves all our stuff out. for 3 week to move in next door. Does anybody else find this ridiculas? Now I am packing to head out tomorrow evening to go home 6 hours away with a car full of shit only to move in next door right after labor day. they won’t even let us move in a little bit early so we can get set up before classes start. God I hate these fuckers. God I hate moving!!!
I had a similar problem. Just tell them you’re not going to leave until you’re able to move in next door. There’s not much they can do about it short of calling the cops.
As for my situation, I was moving from one dorm to another between the spring and summer semesters. The spring dorm wanted me out three days before the summer one would let me move in.
I just told the dorm head to fuck off. If he wanted me out, he’d have to move my shit himself. It’s the university’s fault.
They screwed me, too! Last year I had a horrible roomate and could not really live in my own house. That’s okay. This year I got in an on-campus apartment with my boyfriend and I though everything was going to be wonderful. I’d be in a double, with plenty of room and a bed that wasn’t a bunkbed (I hate bunkbeds)… So one morning I wake up to a call from the houseing office saying “We let to many friggin people into this school so we have decided to turn your doubble into a triple, is that alright?” I said “thats terrible!”, and they offered me a single. Now a single would be great if I was like the rest of the rich kids on campus, but I am not. I can barely afford to eat as is. A single would cost me $1,300 more, a price I can ill afford. They then offered to move me into a different apartment, another impossibility. Last year it was me versus four people that hate me, and I will not put up with it for another year. I want to live with people I know so that that does not happen again.
SO now, me, an only child who is used to living with one other person in a large houses, is going to share a room with two strangers. Even though I signed up for a double. Even though there are people that would love the price break associated with the triple. Even though I had a good friggin plan to enjoy my living situation next year and that is looking harder and harder. Yeah, I’m bitter. This school is over crowded as it is. Last year five people shared an apartment that two years ago housed three. Off-campus houseing is impossible, and I am getting sick of being screwed!
etgaw1: are you sure they’re going to let you graduate? my university made us take a test our junior year. it had a variety of questions, mostly a broad overview of your 3 years (or so) at the school. but if you didn’t do too well on it, especially the english part, you didn’t graduate.
and you wouldn’t have passed it.
re-enroll in ENG 101 or whatever they call it. go every day. do the homework. learn how to spell. learn how to form grammatically correct sentences. and come back later.
Sorry I don’t proof read my post I proably should but I don’t. Oh well. Besides, I got an A in english. I am really sorry I have really bad hand eye coordination problems so my fingers don’t alway go where they are supposed to. Don’t worry about me graduating I have a 3.3 in engineering.
One more thing. Fuck You! Fucking Grammer Zealots. If I had good grammer I would be a english major. And if my post is that incomprehensible then don’t post back. Fucking moron.
I’m not a grammar zealot. It hate it when people are sloppy with syntax and misspell things, but I hate nitpickers more. I gotta say, though, I’m with ubermensch on this one. I read your OP and found myself thinking "This guy is in college?"
That was one fucking mess of an OP, man. I would have been ashamed to put something like that up in ANY public forum.
And “Fuck you, I’m an engineering major” is a lame-ass excuse. We’ve got dozens of engineers around here; they tend to be rather well-spoken, I’ve found.
I am well spoken I just cannot put my word to paper very well. I admit I have problems with it. I should read over my post a couple of time before i post them. The problem with that is i usually read over the mistakes. I really don’t write much normally and when I do grammer is not an issue. That is one reason why I am here. So I have to type more and sharpen my skills. Beleive me when I read over my posts a day after I wrote them I feel bad.
And I don’t use engineering as an excuse. I brought that up to show that i accually am intelligent.
But he doesn’t have to learn capitalization? WTF? Double standard much? Dear Kettle, You’re black. Love, Pot.
Sorry, Uke, but I disagree with you on this one. Ubermensch, what’s the point in slamming his grammar and spelling? Where’s the margin in just being a dick for no apparent reason?
i’m not saying that i’m the english fuckin’ master here, but i think that most of my posts are intelligible. granted, i do misspell some words. as far as capitalization, i rarely do it. it’s just easier than using my weak pinky fingers to reach for the tab. i can type a lot faster this way.
well, andros, it’s the pit. i felt like mouthing off. i can usually handle people who spell some werds lik they’re 31337, because the spelling is intentional. but when someone who is a SENIOR IN COLLEGE should not be making as many mistakes as the OP. granted, the later posts were better, but for someone entering the big world, it was piss poor.
i was a broadcast communications major. i took 2 english classes, 3 if you count american lit. I do, however, know when to capitalize words when they need it. Proper nouns should be capitalized. The start of sentences should be capitalized. I’ve known the basics of grammer since I was in high school. Honestly, I get a strong sense of pride in myself when I see people who are just a year or two behind me, or even my age, WHO CAN’T SPELL OR FORM SENTENCES WORTH SHIT! Why? Because my communication skills are better. I have what it takes to enter the workforce! I know that there are very few, if any, employers looking for employees on here (if there are any in the NYC area who needs someone, let me know please), but still, have pride in yourself. This isn’t directed at the OP at all, he just set me off. When I see someone who makes that many grammitical errors, that many spelling errors, and that many run-on sentences (I do it too, I know), I tend to think they are an illiterate yokel for Ohio (which I found to have an ungodly smell through the entire state) or Missouri. Their opinions rate lower with me. In my mind they are uninformed. Granted, I’m is being prejudiced, but CHRIST! A college graduate, who’s probably 22, should write better than a junior high drop-out.
what does all of this have to do with campus housing???
so his english skills appear to be lacking, maybe he just doesnt give a damn about his punctuation and spelling and proper sentence structure when posting in such a casual atmosphere, i certainly dont
i am all for proper punctuation, spelling, blah, blah, blah and it is important for all to know, but you (uber, uke) didnt even speak of his OP, and come to think of it neither did i…
um, er, Damn those campus housing people!!! (note the proper use of capitel lehters and prahper punkchuashun)
I’ll cut most people slack on spelling and will overlook a whole lot of more or less innocuous grammatical errors. The problem with the OP runs deeper than that – the incoherence there is that of someone hasn’t thought clearly about what they’re saying, making it very unlikely that they’ll express it clearly. I think that’s what Ike and others (myself included) have reacted negatively to. It’s just easier to point out specific spelling and grammar errors than to explain the ways in which something doesn’t make sense. I had to reread parts of the OP two or three times to understand them (insofar as I did). That’s why (I think) ubermensch expressed surprise that the etgaw1 could be in his last year of college and not be able to express himself better than that.
As for the OP, if he did no better explaining the situation and his proposed solution to the housing office than he did to us, I say fair play to them for refusing to listen to him.
A disappointing 4.1 on the meter. Not enough bold text, ‘motherfucker’ misspelled, a distinct whiny tone. Needs to be re-submitted after a thorough re-assessment of life’s injustices.
Rack, you are correct. What the hell is etgaw complaining about? Moving, campus housing officials, driving six hours?
Oh yeah. I also have 3.3 in engineering, yet have no problem expressing myself in the written medium. Newsflash: even as a technical track employee, you will still have to do reports, presentations, and documentation. Spelling and grammar are not the most important thing, but they might keep you from that next promotion.
However, you are right about one thing. Fuck the Grammer Zealots.
Rack, you’re right, entirely. The OP sucked donkey balls from a language standpoint.
I just don’t see that slamming one’s writing is useful, or necessary. If I can’t understand someone’s post, unless I have a vested interest in deciphering it (as with some Bj0rn posts, for example), I simply don’t bother reading it, or I ask the person to rephrase. Gratuitous insult is gratuitous insult. Online, since we can’t say “you’re ugly,” we say “your writing sucks.” Lovely.
And, ubermensch, don’t be a fucking hypocrite, pally. For you to admit that your poor style is due to laziness, but the OP must be an idiot is arrogant, inane, and just plain foolish.
Further, if you’re going to lambaste someone, Mr. Workforce Boy, don’t make stupid fucking errors like this:
Yeah, that sure gives a sound basis to your whole argument.
(Yes, I know it was just a typo. And yes, I make them all the time. But if you ain’t gonn be perfect, don’t criticize others for not being perfect, kay?)
I agree correcting someone for grammer and spelling without absolutely 100% perfect grammar and spelling 100% of the time is stupid and hypocritical. Now if its illegible(which is a hard thing to do on a computer) thats a entirely diffrent matter.
However you should fuckin put lots of spaces in fuckin fuckin between your writing because I wont read the middle of a long paragraph, too much eye strain.
one thing though
here let me point out the spelling and grammar errors in your post instead of saying why it didnt make sense
ubermensch, are you joking? Your own posts decrying the OP’s lack of spelling and grammar skills are riddled - RIDDLED! - with the very errors you slam him for. In fact, you have made so many errors that I am thinking that you were employing a kind of sly irony. Were you?
