Hey, what’s that sinking ship doing out there in the Pacific?
…
…
…
Oh, it’s just the Dodgers crashing and burning. Never mind.
A Giants fan talking about another team crashing and burning?
Game 6? What?
Anyway, a look at the VORPs of the people involved:
LoDuca: 22.2
Mota: 24.4
Encarnacion: 0.7
Choi: 27.7
Penny: 33.3
Johnson: 15.4
Anyway, it looks like the Dodgers came out ahead in the trade, and they got younger to boot. Of course, someone could get injured or whatnot, so we’ll see.
Stupid Dodgers. I wonder what it’s like to have a GM who can pull off competent trades.
You guys don’t seem to realize that next trade DePodesta has planned is to send Penny and prospects to the Diamondbacks for Steve Finley and Randy Johnson. Finley has approved the trade. Johnson just has to approve it.
How do you like the trade then?
I decided in 2002 that I hated the Angels slightly less than I hated the Giants. So while not rooting for the Angels I was wishing that they would win the series. I did not see their big comeback in game 6 because the thought of the Giants winning made me leave the house for a long walk.
I’ll believe it when I see it. If that happens, I’ll give DePodesta props. If…
If wishes were horses we’d all be eating steak!
Two hours to go.
Tick, tick, tick…
Haj
Has DePodesta said this?
I hope it doesn’t happen.
It has just been reported that the trade talks with Randy Johnson have fallen through. Steve Finley and Charles Johnson are still on the table.
Haj
I just saw on FOX that Steve Finley is a Dodger now.
Maybe HE can be their catcher.
And Charles Johnson rejected the trade to LA. Ooops.
Looks like Dave Ross and his .592 OPS is going to get a few more ABs. That’s a lovely -2.4 VORP. Ouch. Of course, he hit well last year, so maybe he turns it around.
Definitely a gamble.
They got DBacks catcher Brent Mayne along with Finley but it looks like Mayne will back up Ross. I’ve been a big DePodesta fan so I hope he knows what the fuck he is doing.
Haj
Then I stand by my “Fucking Dodgers!!!” scream.
Feel free to bring up this thread when the Dodgers make it to the World Series this year. I will gladly eat crow.
Holy shit!
The BoSox traded Nomar to the Cubbies and picked up Mientkiewicz and Orlando Cabrera.
I dunno if that’s good or bad.
Well, the RedSox do need a decent 1st baseman…
Hmmmm…Nomar as a Cub…this could be interesting.
One of the commentators on the Phillies-Cubs game said that he thought the Cubs should have picked up some young player from Montreal instead of Garciaparra.
Quick check on the trade.
Guillermo Mota has yet to throw a pitch for the Marlins, Lo Duca has 5 ABs with 4 hits (including a double and a HR) not too shabby, and Juan Encarnacion has 4 ABs with 1 single and a walk.
Brad Penny just pitched 8 innings allowing no earned runs, 2 hits and a walk but only 4 K’s. Choi has 4 ABs with a double and a walk to his credit.
Granted, it’s still ridiculously early to tell. But the Dodgers are 2-1 since the trade and the Marlins are 0-2.
Nomar and his sunsabithin’ OCD batter’s box twitchin’ and shuffling makes me NUTTY!
Oh yea…
Go Yankees!
I rather like Nomar Garciaparra, and as a consequence of his batter’s box ‘toe dance’ I’ve nicknamed him ‘Twitchy’
As for Mr Finley…he’s been my current favourite player since his debut game in Baltimore (I even made a note in my diary to keep an eye on him)…I think he’s brill (but of course NO equal of my all time favourite player). I cried when I found out he was traded to the Dodgers (cor, she’s just a silly snivelling girl, pay no mind to her! Besides, I’m used to having the piss taken out of me over my fave players cos I admit I’ve made some strange choices over the years
)
Ms Boods
(who used to drive the nuns mad in 77-78 offering up rosaries for the Yankees to win the World Series, and who spent many many happy summers as a wee Boodie rooting for the Phillies, and simply can not not not allow Dodger blue in her lifestyle…oh well, at least the matches are called by the sublime Vin Scully…)
You must have excellent eye sight. How can you see that well from seven and a half games back?
Haj
Ah yes, the guy who lulls us this close to sleep and then shocks you awake with a comment that couldn’t possibly be more bizarre or off-topic in a baseball broadcast… “What the fuck is that man talking about?!”
