I will say, it’s sort of interesting in a train-wreck sort of way how right-wingers and trolls have so completely converged. There was once a time when conservatives had an actual set of morals and values, albeit ones that usually had to live uncomfortably alongside racism and xenophobia. But there was at least a shell of an ethos. Nowadays that’s completely fallen away, leaving them with nothing driving them but pettiness and spite. They derive pleasure from the unhappiness and pain of others - it’s perhaps the only feeling of power they have left to them, the ability to ‘control’ others by making them unhappy.
That’s the entire driving force behind maskholes - in their sociopathy, they consider themselves a winner if they make the world worse.

The impression I always got about Typhoid Mary is that she was in persistent denial about the effects she was having. A very ‘facts go in, facts go out’ type of deal.
Maskholes are quite resistant to fact, but they’re not ignorant about this - they know exactly what they’re doing. Going maskless lets them, essentially, physically attack people without consequence. If they punch somebody they’ll get in trouble, but this lets them basically poison people and walk away with a smile. That’s a feeling of power that makes them giddy.
That’s why it’s a ‘freedom’ issue - making them put a mask on is like telling them they can’t point a gun a somebody and pull the trigger. It robbing them of power.
