At the intersection of maskhole and regular entitled asshole…
The other night I get a call to come to the front of the store. The cashier and the cart attendant are there and tell me one of the customers parked in a no-parking zone that everyone uses anyway, and decided to kick over the newly installed “No Parking” sign.
Let’s be clear: the spot is not a parking spot. It is a curb cut in the parking lot to lead to the next parking lot over, except that lot is currently a grassy field, so it’s a driveway to nowhere. But it has the curbs painted red as a fire lane, so it’s a no parking zone. However, everybody likes to use it because it’s easy to pull into and close to the front of the store. And the police periodically come and ticket people parked there, but not too often.
Recently, it appears someone installed an actual “No Parking” sign. This guy apparently pulled in, didn’t like the sign, so he kicked it over. Then came in to shop like nothing was wrong.
I approached him casually to ask how he was doing, but he didn’t complain about the sign to me. So I follow him out the door, to see if I can get a picture of his license plate. However, the pictures aren’t clear and it was too far for me to make out. Until he drove right past the front of the store to yell at me, “Hey, I’m a two-time veteran who fought for your freedom, you be sure to put that in your report!” Then I got a good look at his license plate number.
I’m sorry, I didn’t realize being a veteran gave you permission to disregard the occasional law, from minor traffic violations to destruction of property.
By the way, the sign wasn’t even Walmart property, and we likely aren’t going to do anything, probably not even file a report. So it’s city property he damaged.
And yes, this guy was not wearing a mask in the store.
