Fucking Microsoft pop-ups, and that detestable &*^$*^% Hotbar

Let it be known that I am not a computer mavin, by any means, so what I’m ranting about will have to be expressed in layman’s terms.
What the FUCK is with Microsoft?! I have never owned a Mac, happen to love my Win98, have had zero problems with it…in other words, I’m a strong supporter of Windows and Microsoft.

But this SHIT with those motherfucking pop-up ads is driving me stark raving bonkers!! I’m at work, and a large part of our system is connected with/operated through the Internet. Through Windows. All day long, I’ll be working with an account, when BAM here comes a pop-up ad that intercepts my keystrokes ('cause the system now sees me as being in that motherfucking pop-up ad). I have to stop what I’m doing, close that cursed pop-up ad, then go back to my account and try to pick up where I left off. And when it interrupts my entering an account number from a client who is calling in and I have to ask for the account number again, it makes me look like a fucking moron (shaddup), besides wasting time.

I feel like banging my head against the desk, but I don’t want to get splinters in my forehead.
And that irritating, hemmorhoid-inducing, teeth-grating, fingernails-on-the-blackboard motherFUCKING Hotbar!!! Hey, look, you bastards…if I want to even think about surfing around, just looking for other similar sites, I can do that already with any number of well-established sites. Does the name Google ring a bell with you? But NOOOOOO…you evidently have the idea that nobody has any creative thinking capability at all, and has to be TOLD where to look for other sites.

sigh
Probably a lame rant ennyway.
And does anybody know how to block these fucking abominations??

Pop-Up Stopper, the invention of the gods–there’s all kinds of different kinds and the basic ones are free. Try google–that is if your work will let you download stuff onto your computer. Check with your IT guy, if pop-ups are limiting your productivity they should be all for getting it taken care of.

Also get AdAware. It sounds like you might have some nasty spyware on your computer that sees certain words like “customer” on the pages you’re working on and thinks to itself "Hey. She’s looking at customers I should tell her about customer de-spooging products. It too is freeware and an absolute godsend once you use it.

Unfortunately, I can’t download anything here at work. The IT request I’ve submitted (twice) has disappearred into a black hole (they’re about as efficient as a rubber crutch in a windstorm).

Do you happen to know anything about that miserable Hotbar?

*AdAd-Aware

So far as I know pop-ups don’t have anything to do with the operating system but are triggered by the site you are visiting. You’ll get popups at sit A whether you are on a Mac, Linux or Windows machine.

For hotbar, check out This page. This sounds like the spyware you’re infected with. Just follow their steps and you should be somewhat better off.

Oh, and if you’re not a computer expert, don’t mess with the Registry. Evil things lurk there. Just do the Start -> Settings -> Control Panel -> Add/Remove Programs steps.

The program I use, the Proxomitron does not make any registry entries. Our IT guys have it set up where we can’t install anything that mucks around in the registry, and I had no problem putting it on my work machine, so it may work well for you, too.

Proxo takes a little time to figure out, but once you do it’s really very powerful – it doesn’t just stop popups, but other annoying things too, and you can enable/disable filters as you wish.
