You know what’s a real pisser about radioactive fallout? It doesn’t just stay over the country of origin, it moves downwind to other countries. When Chernobyl had it’s little disaster the radioactivity showered down not just on the Ukraine and the Soviets, not just on Europe, but world wide. Seems to me when the nasty effects of war spill over onto others that makes it everybody’s business.
As for the Taliban et. al. being upset because the USA has interests abroad - fuck 'em. EVERYBODY has foreign interest these days, not just the USA. By that argument they should have attacked London and Paris and Tel Aviv and Moscow and probably a dozen other cities with airliners on Sept 11, too, but they didn’t. Nope, just us (at least on that day).
And, frankly, buying Mid-East oil to support the lifestyles of Arab/Muslim extremists, trying to get the Isrealis and Palestinians to play nice instead of wiping each other out, and rendering aid to victims of famine and war in Africa doesn’t seem to justify destroying thousands of lives, destroying 16 acres of a major city, attacking the capital of a country, and clearly planning even more mayhem than actually occurred. I’m sorry if our system results in greater prosperity and freedom for the average citizen than theirs does, but we aren’t stopping them from doing what they want to do in their countries. Seems to me, with their constant railing about how immoral we are and how we should be more like them THEY are trying to interfere with US.
No one is saying take over India and Pakistan to stop them from blowing each other up (alright, I did read that suggestion on the BBC website, but maybe that was British Colonialism wanting its Empire back). Clearly, they’re going to do what they want to do. But it’s STUPID! Millions of people will die if this happens. Millions more will suffer horribly.
