So what do you do for fun the big city?
I am going to Atlanta next week. What do you recommed for a couple of women to do there. We are staying at the Peachtree Plaza, which is downtown I think.
I don’t want to just shop!
Help me out here.
Thanks
Stellablue, Atlanta is fun. Look up the definition of “fun” in the phone book and it will say “Atlanta.”
Unfortunately, the Peachtree Plaza is indeed downtown, and there’s little to do there besides shop or go to the Hard Rock Cafe or Planet Hollywood, and I know you don’t want to do any of that. Will you have a car? No matter, you can reach fun via MARTA pretty easily from the Peachtree Plaza.
As it happens, as of Monday evening my schedule becomes pretty light, so if you want more detailed advice or even a tour guide I’ll be happy to help. Email me privately and I’ll tell you my phone number.
Or just wait 'til you get here and go to any bar; you’ll see my number written on the drywall.
Give me a couple of minutes to have coffee and think about it-it’s early. This is really just to bump this back up top so I’ll see it again.
But, what kind of things are you interested in doing? Historical stuff? Touristy stuff? You already said you’re not into shopping, so I guess I won’t mention Lenox Square and Phipps Plaze(I find malls boring, so I wouldn’t truly recommend them anyway).
The last person who really had fun in Atlanta was General Sherman.
I don’t live in Atlanta but I do visit often to see a sister and a new neice…
I like the restaurant - The Vortex - which is in little five points. Check out what is happening at the Fox Theatre - I’ve seen a couple of things there - a movie and a play (RENT) -which was really fun.
Sorry - guess I’m not much help.
Have fun - and um - tell my sister I said hello if you see her.
LMAO…Yeah, you owe me for the Cappucino that spewed all over the screen.
Stellablue…It really depends on what you’re looking for.
If you’re into the club scene, the Buckhead area is the place for that.
If you’re more into the arts, there’s the Fox Theater or High Museum of Art
Informational - Fernbank Historical Museum, Fernbank Science Museum, Carter Center, Botanical Gardens, Civil War Cyclorama, etc
And you have the tourist places - That is, the Coca-Cola Museum (cheesy though it may sound, that’s actually pretty cool), Olympic Park, Hard Rock Cafe, Planet Hollywood, Six Flags, Stone Mountain
Good Places to eat - Cheescake Factory, Spaghetti Factory, P.F. Changs, Atlanta Fish Market
Of course I can’t cover everything, but if you want more information, just go to the “local” section of Aol.com or Yahoo.com and there’s tons of stuff.
Hope that helped a little!
Thanks all.
Yes I am interested in the arts and history. I will make good use of your suggestions.
ChiefScott- Thanks for that! It makes me grateful that he did not have as much fun in my town, Charleston.
callie- Sure, I’ll give her a hug too!
Fiver- I read your other thread. I am not sure I want to hang out in your favorite spots! What part of Atlanta were you in? I want to avoid it.
