Fun? Indy? Mutually exclusive?

I plan to spend a day or two in Indianapolis at a trade show in September. Is there ANY reason i should spend any more time there than I have to?

What are you interested in, and I’ll tell you if / where you can find it!

Restaurants, museums, live theater, art galleries, good shopping, sports stuff, one of the largest city parks in the country - what are you looking for?

Like Avarie said, there’s plenty of fun stuff to do in Indianapolis! It’s a great city to just wander around - pretty safe, plenty of people out and about but not overcrowded. I really love it after dark, when the monuments on the circle and Veteran’s Memorial Plaza and American Legion Mall are all lit up.

The new Indiana State Museum is pretty nifty - WinkieHubby and I went just after a trip to Washington DC, and forgot that we were in Indiana! It is right dowtown, along with the Eiteljorg Museum of American Indians and Western Art, the NCAA Hall of Champions, and the Zoo and White River gardens: White River State Park website.

By coincidence, the current issue of FHM magazine features a list of great bars in Indianapolis:

Alley Cat Lounge
Slippery Noodle Inn
Ike & Jonesy’s
8 Seconds Saloon
Nicky Blaine’s
Daddy Jack’s
P.S. O’Rourke’s
Connor’s Pub
Coaches Tavern
Shots Cocktail Garden & Eatery
CT Peppers Ltd
St Elmos’s Steak House
McNiven’s
Red Room
That Place in Greenwood
Bubbas Bar & Grill
Kilroy’s Sports Bar
Neon Cactus
Richie Brothers Tavern
Jag’s Lima Road Bar & Grill

Short answer: No.

Long answer: No. No way in hell.

Unless you want to experience a place that has all of the drawbacks of a large city and none of the advantages. Do you like high crime, high humidity, uninspired vanilla-flavored architecture and closed-minded conservative racists? If so, you’ll have a blast!

(Note: I know there are people in Indy that aren’t closed-minded conservative racists, there just aren’t enough of them.)

Indianapolis’ Motto: “Move Over New York, Apple Is Our Middle Name!” :wally :smack:
