Fun Time Flu Time

I just put a corned beef brisket in the crock pot. No recipe other than put in crock pot, add the spce packet, fill with water, turn it on, and don’t let it boil for 5 hours.

Should be done when Battlestar Galaxative ends tonight. I’ve been wanting Reubens for a while now…

Well of course I have a mouth and hands. I came equipped with the big, red Mrs. Potato-head stick on lips and the skinny arms.

See below.

Boo - sounds like no fun. I worked more than 12 yesterday and will be working tomorrow as well, but my week won’t come close to 100 hours and everything should let up by the end of next week… Hope your work slows down soon too.

Oh…and another pun:

Did you hear the one about the yogi who refused Novocain during a root canal?
His goal: transcend dental medication.

Umm, I might have the chandelier you’re looking for. Is it a big center light, pointing down, with five smaller lights pointing up? Wrought iron with sort of pearly-swirly-ivory glass? (I think of amber glass as dark, but my new bathroom fixtures claim to have amber glass, and they’re nearly white.) I got mine at Home Depot, and it’s being replaced tomorrow. It hangs down too low now that I moved the table, and I don’t want anyone to get accidentally decapitated - deliberately decapitated would be OK, depending on who it is, but I don’t want to take any chances on getting the wrong guy. I’ll try to snap a photo of it before we take it down and I’ll send the photo to you. If it’s the right fixture, let’s talk postage.

Hooray, nice weather is back! Blue skies, highs just above 70, light breeze. Maybe we’ll go by the Strawberry Festival or the Gasparilla Arts Festival this weekend.

You northern Dopers need to keep your cold fronts to yourselves from now on.

We got about 1 1/2 inches of really wet snow overnight. Looks really pretty because it stuck to everything. Since it’s supposed to be close to 40 and somewhat sunny today, I figured it made sense to shovel so that the walks might be dry later… But really, I’m ready for spring!!!

Shibb, just a quick FYI. We’re having our Chasco Festival in NPR this weekend. Not sure how it compares to your other possible plans. On Main street, some rides, some music, people selling their wares, etc. It’s our big event for the year.

Mmmmm… goetta…
The last time The Barenaked Ladies came to town, the Little Woman and my sister (and a bunch of other people) went to see them. They had a good time. But the important thing is that trip to Cincinnati (note spelling) was the first time the bunch of Canadians had goetta. Can you imagine? All those times they’ve been to Cincinnati and they just then had goetta. During the show, they riffed on goetta and it was even on the live CD the Little Woman bought off their website.

“Goetta: It’s like oatmeal with pork!”

Yeah, that’s about right. Only it’s more like haggis. Only substitute pork bits for the sheep bits (pretty much the same ones), and swap out oatmeal for the barley. And it comes in loaves if you get it from the butcher shop, or chubs in the grocery store. And you fry it (of course) instead of boiling it in a stomach.

But only old people say “please” instead of “excuse me” (in the “huh?” sense, not the “please let me by” or “pardon me, I made a noise” sense).

I’m told a few of the Barenaked Ladies live in my neighbourhood. I’ve never seen them, but apprently they’re around here someplace. Aren’t I posh?

Off to look at very pretty clothes. Yesterday was fantastic. Happy weekend everyone. Oh, and lightingtool, I’m working later today and tomorrow, if that makes you feel better.

If you run into a Barenaked Lady Lissla, casually mention goetta (GET-ah). They’ll be all impressed and write a song about you.

Bumping into? Perfectly innocent - bonk bonk bonk. Now crawl out of the gutter - you’re crowding swampy down there. :stuck_out_tongue:

Sounds like fun. Where is it in New Port Richey? I’ve never got a bead on the center of that place, it just seems to run along forever on US 19, bleeding into Tarpon Springs and Port Richey and Holiday and such.

We were down in Bradenton for another soccer game today. It was very exciting. Our girls jumped out to a 2-0 lead against the other team (which has beaten them twice in the regular season), then conceded 3 goals to go down 2-3, then scored in the last few minutes to salvage a 3-3 tie. They play again tomorrow at 9 am, so it’s another earlier morning drive down south. Which means we probably won’t come up north after, but it’s nice to know the option exists.

After the game today we stopped by the Gasparilla Art Festival in downtown. It was very nice. Several of the artists took their time to explain to the Shibblets how they created their works. And we bought some almonds coated with cinnamon and sugar, which were very yummy.

Oh, and whence the name “Chasco”? Some corruption of Pasco, I presume?

We’re back down to Bradenton in a few minutes, not sure what to do after that. I was thinking of taking the kids out to Orlando for the day, but don’t think I’m up for that amount of driving.
