Why are there more programs that give money and food for dysfunctional families than for functional families who need financial assistance with many aspects of life?
Here is the situation. My wife and I are looking for a home to buy and we were told that in order to get a good home that we would either have to start making more money or start making less and to get a divorce. We were told that there are many programs out there for single mothers and drug addicted single people who are on welfare than there are for people in mine and my wife’s financial situation. My wife is a first year teacher with a master’s degree and I am in my senior year of college and in the army reserve. I spent six years on active duty army. Why, with us living life the right way, are there no programs that help us? Is this fair?
alstout, could you hook me up with that “houses for crack-heads” program? I have a few friends who could use it.
On a serious note, I couldn’t afford a house when I was in college either. I feel for you, but you’ve got to hang in there a bit. “Living right” doesn’t mean you get a free house.
Where did you hear that welfare assists you so you can buy a house? I don’t know what country you are in but there is NO welfare in the US. Clinton abolished that a couple years back.
There are aid programs for mothers with kids like in California, they pay a mother with one kid about $450.00 per month & give her $50 for food stamps. That’s California, where rents are $600 for a one bedroom. Would you like to live like that?
alstout, I do feel for you. But let’s be real here. They don’t really have programs that enable “single mothers with 5 kids by numerous fathers and no job” to have a “free house.” Sure they can get welfare and cheap rent in some project in the barrio, but that’s not the same thing. Not even close.
What your original post is saying is “How come the poor are living like kings and I’m working hard and can’t buy a house?” The fact is that the poor are not living like kings. And the fact is that you’re currently not employed. I know you’re busting your butt in school, but unemployed means there’s not enough money coming in to pay for a house. That’s just the math in your life today.
Like I say, hang in there; you’ll make it. But don’t go hating those that have it worse then you. They really aren’t dining at the Ritz, you know.
I’m sure if you tried hard enough and gave it the old college try you too could be living in the projects. Is this the free housing you had in mind? Didn’t think so.
Because people don’t like helping functional people. I heard a woman rant about how there was a guy wanting to buy her house using a VA loan, and he drove a nice car. She and the people she was talking to thought that only the poor were or should be allowed to benefit from government loans. She was angry that an able bodied man who was not suffering from poverty was benefitting from a government loan.
My husband was severly injured due to negligence of his drill sergeant in basic training. He could not walk for many years. His college was paid for and he gets a monthly disability (under $200). Some have said that now he can finally walk again and finally found a decent job, he should pay the govenment back and stop taking disability.
