Fundy celebrities?

I was merely using that as an example to point out that disparaging remarks could be made about devout Moslems just as they could about devout Christians.

Which I don’t think anybody argued. (The word is Muslim, btw; Moslem isn’t disrespectful but it is dated.)

That’s not really accurate. Lisa Whelchel, for example, was a conservative Christian even back in her Mouseketeer days. She deliberately retired from showbiz in order to raise a family. Similarly, Kirk Cameron was a born-again believer even at the height of his popularity.

Sure, a good number of them are washed up, but that’s true of celebrities in general.

I thought it was disrespectful, as it is a Persian word meaning “oppressor”. I thought the reason for changing the spelling was to veer away from that connotation.

I always wondered why the word shifted. In my college days in the early 80, it wqas perfectly acceptable.
