Bob Loblaw’s Law Blog (Arrested Development)
Kanye West’s “George Bush doesn’t care about black people” line, with Mike Myers trying to keep a straight face next to him, was funnier than anything on SNL in the past 10 years or so.
I think Jim Parsons is going to end up going down in history with the likes of Don Knotts and Tim Conway as brilliant small-screen comedic actors.
Here’s the video of the Christmas scene from Annie-Xmas’s post.
I hope some stuff in Arrested Development turns into classics too. Altho, I wonder if that type of show is only really funny if you know the entire story.
It’s completely stupid, but when Tina Fey mentioned a law firm on 30 Rock named “Dewey, Cheatem, and Rabinowitz” I fell off the couch laughing.
Yeah, not really origional, unless there’s a comedy twist I’m missing when they stole Dewey, Cheatem and Howe.
Like this one?
That’s exactly what made it so stupid AND funny at the same time. You were expecting Howe; you got Rabinowitz.
I’m curious about the Freaks and Geeks clip that wasn’t as funny. Which one was it? I’ve watched the show recently and I’d like to judge if it really is funny.
It’s when Nick had Lindsay over on a date in his basement bedroom, and started singing “Lady” to her. (Clip - start at 1:50)
I remember laughing my ass off when I first saw it, but when I looked it up yesterday it wasn’t THAT funny. Not fall-off-the-couch funny like I remembered it.
Oh yeah. Yeah, I always found that one more painful and awkward than anything else. (Poor, poor Nick!) I think the moment in another episode (Dead Dogs and Gym Teachers) where Nick’s about to sing an awful song to Lindsay but Ken takes the guitar and smashes it holds up, though.
Yeah, that was awesome. I hate humor about people embarrassing themselves.
So having never seen 30 Rock, I’m not mising anything.
No access to Youtube at the moment, and it’s probably close to the 20-year limit, but definitely Rags the kangaroo coldcocking Marty the Monster on Australia’s “Early Bird Show”. They say not to work with children and animals, but if you have an animal that takes exception to a guy in a furry suit? Champagne comedy.
SNL:
The “We Are the World” parody for free-range chicken when they pan over to “Wilson Phillips” and Chris Farley is Carnie Wilson. Funniest sight gag ever.
Chris Farley and Patrick Swayze trying out for Chippendales
I think Jason Priestley was the guest and it was a parody of the Winter Olympics figure skating. The male skater keeps messing up and eventually you see blank ice and then him just sliding across on his belly. “Oh, he’s really losing it now…”
Doc Martin:
The reaction of the straight-laced Martin Ellingham when he inadvertently walked in on his elderly Aunt Joan doing the nasty on the kitchen table with a much younger man.
His inability to stop mentally replaying the image over and over again in his mind as he was driving away was hysterical - and very real. That’s what any of us would do.
You know, if the past ~297 hours of it haven’t been funny to you, you should probably give up on it.
A random number of scenes from Arrested Development, the Office or Extras could easily make it into this thread.
Tobias Fünke goes on audition. I always crack up at the Amazing Grace.
From Roseanne, Jackie tries to call an aunt after her father dies. Skip ahead to 1:45 for the funny.
Also from Roseanne, from that abysmal final season that in a just and caring world would never have happened, Debbie Reynolds guest starred as Dan’s insane off-her-meds mother in the third-to-last episode, and was frigging hilarious.
