This has been done before, but never hurts to remember those classic moments again.
Some of my favorites:
In Golden Girls, they did an episode with birthdays from the past, and Rose had invited Dorothy to a kind of Chuck E Cheese restaurant (with a clown and parties for little kids) and of course gave her name ito the clown in charge - it was a classic as Dorothy had to march around, etc.
From Friends, it was only one line, but cracked me up. Lisa Kudrow (Phoebe) is talking to someone outside of their cafe, Central Perk, and, mid-sentence, notices the sign. Mind you, this is in like, Season 5 or something, and she points to the sign and says something like, “Oh, now I get it - like Central Park!”
From Roseanne, Laurie Metcalf (Jackie) has to make a phone call to an elderly relative to announce that their dad died. It is one of the funniest moments ever on television.
Married With Children - the one where Al gets glasses and can suddenly see clearly, he takes a look about his house, looks at a photo of his wife, sees his kids, job etc, in the cold light of day - then takes them off and stamps on them. Also loved “God’s shoes” and the one where he meets friendly Aliens.
I agree with that Golden Girls moment–no matter how many times I see it, I laugh myself sick!
I’ve never seen this show, but your description made me laugh so hard that I just had to see if I could find that clip on YouTube. I gotta say, that is truly one of the funniest things I’ve ever seen!
IIRC she was showing someone around town and said “This is Central Park [points across the street] and this is Central Perk…Oh my god, I just got that”
I wonder how many other people, like me, just got it and the same time.
dad’s dead
dad died
DAD’S GONE
DAD IS DEAD DAD IS DEAD DAD DIED
He’s fine, he sends his love.
Friends had some very funny moments. When Chandler awoke to find his odd roommate watching him sleep. When Ross showed up dressed as the Holiday Armadillo. I wish that they would take the reruns off the air, but they did have some great episodes.
There are too many funny MWC episodes to count! I cracked up when Peg forced Al to do the deed and they cut to images of a washing machine agitator furiously plunging up and down, an oil derrick pumping away, and ICBM missles rising up into launch position - subtle, huh?
For my money, and I’m old, I know, WKRP remains the most off-the-hook sitcom ever. Both the Turkeys episode and Johnny Fevers phone cops bit rank as the top two for me.
My all-time favorite sitcom moment is from WKRP when Herb has a heart attack. They find him out of the hospital at a 3-D porno film. All of the cast is sitting in the theater and the reaction shots of them dodging “items” from the porno is priceless.
Does the Simpsons count? If so, I’m going with the episode in which Lisa becomes a vegetarian while Homer plans a barbecue blowout.
IIRC, the family is sitting around the table as Lisa exhorts her father to cancel the barbecue out of respect for vegetarian choices and perhaps even join her in those choices.
Homer replies, in a general, paraphrasing sort of way, “If I were a vegetarian, I couldn’t eat ham. And bacon. And porkchops.”
“Daaaad, those all come from the same animal!”
“Ppphht, yeah, right. Some magical animal.”
His condescending, sarcastic tone just made it so much sweeter. My dad and I hit the floor on that one.
