That was a freaking riot. I mentioned somewhere else the time I was at the dentist and, in mid-dental operation, I recalled that thread, which caused me to suddenly laugh like a jackass and have many complicated dental implements removed from my mouth in a hurry.
The two that have really sent me into uncontrollable laughter are, of course, The horror of blimps and Wang-Ka’s Jehovah’s Witness encounter. I also got a good laugh out of the triple post that set off the whole 1920s death ray phenomenon, but that’s been so overdone already I don’t find it funny any more.

In addition to the “funniest things said during lovemaking” (which kept me up all night laughing), there was one “tell us your penis size” thread that I can’t seem to find now. After a lot of Dopers had given above-average lengths for their members, someone said something like, “I’d have a 10 inch dick, too, if I measured from my asshole.” That just cracked me up, and it has always stuck with me.
A few that I remember:
Scylla’s groundhogs.
The original (and sadly lost) Phaedrus GD debacle.
The original Enterprise vs. Star Destroyer thread.
The original “Thread” thread.
I assume this is referring to an older “thread” thread. Do you have a link to it or some keywords (other than “thread” obviously) that I could use to locate it?
The one I started within the past few weeks has been fun, but not all that “funny” in the sense of ha-ha. Just weird mostly.

Thanks for looking for that, andros. I now recall having seen that thread referenced in something else I read since coming on board. That was some clever stuff. At the time I read it (well not every post but most of it) I thought it was neat.
Later, when the notion of the more recent “thread” thread came to me, I had “forgotten” seeing that older one. I don’t think the two are along similar lines, but that’s just my view.
If anything, I think the post in the later “thread” thread that mentions Hofstadter is closer to the origin of the idea I had for the thread, especially after it got going with other posts and other people’s input.

Yesssssssssssssss… I know what that feels like.
If I recall correctly, there were two, originally. One was tracer’s, and it didn’t get very extensive. Just had twenty or so replies before it fell off the map.
Then there was mine. Mine was better. 
This from Torgo is from over 3 years ago, but it really cracked me up. I even go look it up now and then.
