Furniture Experts: Sticky coating developing on new leather chair- help!

Help furniture experts-

My new brown leather chair which is a couple of months old (brought it as a floor demo model from crate & barrel) is developing a clear sticky coating on it. It did not have the coating when I bought it or really for about the first couple of weeks. I am not sure what it is or what to do to remove the sticky/tacky film on the chair and to prevent its return. All advice and information greatfully accepted. I tried Google without success.

Thanks

I have read that this caused by tanning compounds leaching out. Try googling for “sticky” and “leather” – I found some advice there, including (1) a light sponging with water and a little soap, followed by (2) Murphy’s Oil Soap or saddle soap. When completely dry, protect the leather with (3) mink oil.
