furniture that conveys a sense of menace

Menace? Like this?

Sorry, couldn’t resist.

although it might be out of your price range if you’re not a god-king

And in addition to the comfy Goth pieces why not throw a little conversation piece into the mix as well.

I just got my son a bed for his upcoming birthday. Has anyone seen the “Legion” Iron beds? I found a replica on ‘O’ for a lot less. I am just hoping it isn’t too menacing? My son is 26 and he is furnishing his first home. Any ideas on a night stand to go with this bed?

Here’s your chandelier.

Sit in this and you’ll be menacing.
Menacing to bad guys!

Well, more disturbing than menacing, but this would make a great china cabinet.

If you want to go for a more subtle, almost subconscious sense of unease, I’d suggest keeping your place dark, with lighting mainly in spotlight form. Having spotlights aimed at particular chairs gives a good third-degree feeling.

Use dark fabric and wood, lots of long dark drapery on the windows, and all upholstered furniture should be tight, not overstuffed. Art should be taxidermied animals (a raven, perhaps?).

I’ve come across a couple of these in antique shops. It’s a real trip sitting in one.

I see used dental chairs on eBay for $1199!

Good grief. Who would want such a thing?

It’s an electric chair, or an excellent facsimile thereof - the seller makes a persuasive case that it’s genuine.

Oooh yeah. Who doesn’t need a Worship Throne?
Neat site!

Don’t neglect that bathroom.

A chair like this might be neat!

Of course, if you make yours resemble it too closely (and use it in a major motion picture) the designer might sue you for $1000000 or so!

I find that many ultra-modern tables are vaguely menacing in the right context. I’m pretty sure that this, for instance, would scream “potential child killer” in low lighting.

Check out this chair while you’re there.

That is hilarious!

Try this for your lighting. Its stylish, eco-friendly, and I wouldn’t want to stand under it.

Or for a different tone you can try to make one of these.
