Remember when we found out Leela’s full name is Turanga Leela? And when Frye expressed surprise that her first name was Turanga, Amy very pointedly called him Phillip? Doesn’t that sound to you that it means Leela is her family or surname?
So why does IMDB list her parents’ names as Turanga Munda and Turange Morris? Shouldn’t they be Munda Leela and Morris Leela? Or are they Japanese mutants?

You assume correctly. That sucks. It looks like new Futurama episodes are as plentiful as guitar strings in the sewers. 
Hmmm. From the latest post from Billy in that thread, he seems to believe the DVD deal is still in the works, even if rumors of a new TV series turned out to be bunk.
I’ll take whatever Futurama I get!
Yeah, it sounds that way. It just isn’t. We don’t know what conventions mutants use with regard to family names. 
What’s great about that bit is that not only did Fry not known Leela’s ‘last’ name, Bender didn’t know Fry’s first name.
Keep in mind the other major factor in Family Guy’s resurrection was DVD sales, something like 3,000,000 units (from projected sales of only 100,000 or so). I’m sure the Futurama DVDs do well, but probably not the kind of “Holy SHIT!” numbers that Family Guy racked up.
