While checking the weather I read this

FBI: Atlanta Was Target Of Terrorists
Alleged Hijackers’ Names Released
NEW YORK, 7:19 p.m. EDT September 14, 2001 – They struck in New York, and in Washington – but could they also have had Atlanta in mind?

Federal investigators have reportedly come up with information in the aftermath of Tuesday’s attacks, indicating that the terrorists may also have targeted Atlanta.

Officials tell the Associated Press that the FBI got the information from people it’s interviewed since Tuesday – people who knew the hijackers.

They say they’re still developing leads. And they’re not saying whether the threat against the city continues.

Officials in Georgia have met with FBI officials, and are ready to take any necessary precautions. Justice Department officials today released the names of 19 people they identified as the dead hijackers aboard the four planes.

And they said they’re searching for 100 other people they want to question in connection with the attacks.

Doesn’t sound like a pattern fit to me, unless it ties to the report of hitting Air Force One.

But I certainly wouldn’t have put it past them.
Symbolism is tricky to predict. Is it possible they remember Jimmy Carter from the Iran hostage days?

Not putting down Atlanta, it’s a hell of a city…but why them? What’s the pattern? Might Seattle also be a target? Someone said on this board a while back that, while living in Michigan during the Cold War, they were told that Detroit would be the prime target after NYC and DC, because it was a huge center of industry. Atlanta does well for herself: could that be why?

According to the link posted, the target in Atlanta was the Federal Reserve bank there as well as the one in Richmond Va.

I see. Thank you.

Aaaahhhhh. I see. I wondered…

Isn’t the CDC in Atlanta as well?

I think you’re right, Drain. [sub]glad to see you back around here, BTW![/sub]

Ooooooh, my. That could have been really, really nasty.

Maybe they were ticked at CNN?

Hartsfield is also the busiest airport in North America, if I recall.

From the Atlanta Journal-Constitution:

as rsa points out, the reports turns out to be false. When I first heard the report, I started thinking of potential targets in Atlanta:

[ul]
[li]Federal Reserve Bank[/li][li]The CDC (as Drain pointed out)[/li][li]CNN (probably a longshot)[/li][li]Hartsfield Airport(as Saint Zero pointed out)[/li][li]Lockheed Martin plant in Marietta[/li][li]Dobbins Air Force Base[/li][/ul]

It has been for the past two years, but all signs indicate that O’Haire is going to pass it this year.
