G.W. Bush and Tenet's Georgetown U. Defense

I take a back seat to nobody in my disdain for GW as President. In my view he is an inept bungler who procedes from one gaudy fiasco to the next leaving a mess behind for others to clean up. He is no more qualified for the job than I am. The only difference between us is that I realize it.

However …

Having heard extended exerpts from Tenet’s speech on The News Hour the other night I can see how anyone with GW’s mind set regarding Saddam could easily convince themselves that war was needed if the intelligence briefings in any way resembled the speech.

True, Tenet said that the intelligence briefings didn’t come right out and say “imminent,” but for anyone hell-bent on doing something, needed or not, the jump from what Tenet said to “imminent” isn’t all that hard.

So maybe GW isn’t malevolent, just rash and heedless of consequences because as a son of wealth, and therefore influence, he has always been able to avoid them before.

Given that Iraq was a done deal even before Bush stole, er…uh…won the presidency, if it weren’t Tenet it would have been someone/something else next month or next month.

A government which had no prior agenda regarding Iraq would have waited.

I think GW’s family background had little to do with it. Rather, his advisor’s predetermined goals.
