Recently Mrs. R has been ploughing through the Outlander series of books, by Diana Gabaldon. They don’t interest me at all, except that every time I glance at a cover, I wonder:
“GAB-ul-dun” or “Guh-BALL-dun”?
The name is Spanish, and has an accent on the third syllable. Also, a long “O”.
GAH-bal-DOAN
As Mrs. Gabaldon would tell you, it rhymes with “bad-to-the-BONE.”
Season 2 premiers April 9. Starz will be showing marathons, if you’d like to see what has your wife all hot and bothered.
My 2nd grade teacher was Mrs. Gabaldon, and she pronounced it the second way (stress on the second syllable).
