Gaga's new 'Telephone' video- "I told you she didn't have a dick."

My point was not that she looks like a guy, but that she presents like a female impersonator.

You wondered if she was a guy, but you didn’t think she looked like a guy. Gotcha.

And now I’m wondering if you’re being willfully obtuse. Is it really that hard to grasp that she presented a flamboyant, gender-ambiguous image and sported a name that sounds like a runner-up at the Miss Trannyshack pageant?

It’s hard to grasp that you thought she was a guy without thinking she looks like a guy.

Those are your words, and a gross misinterpretation of what I said and meant.

Living within a subculture and then mocking it and whining about it in a money making venture is crass. If you don’t like the culture you immersed yourself in, gtfo. Go find a new culture. Otherwise, you’re just exploiting something that other people do consider an art form.

It may be that the big joke is on you. She may be nothing more than a clever artist who knows that people will wink wink nudge nudge themselves into buying a shitty pop record because they think she is being “meta”, when in fact she is really just exploiting some consumer’s tendencies to want to believe they are “in on the joke”.

I doubt it tho. She has too much style, too little substance.

She certainly has some musical talent. Here’s her at a piano before she was famous: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=93h9aCRp8eg

And here’s her on an MTV show: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1SIK-yzlxiU&feature=related She’s on the black strapless top. She looks okay without the makeup, not ugly but nothing special in the face.

I just noticed that Lady Gaga rhymes with Germanotta, her real last name.

With all the crazy shit she wears, I bet she could go out without the makeup and probably have a normal life if she wanted, at least if she stayed out of LA and whatnot. She probably wouldn’t be recognized too often.

You’re wrong about 2 things in this post of yours: you’re wrong about me saying in the previous post that you were wrong about anything. Go back and re-read it, and quote the part where I attacked you (or even your opinions).

And you’re wrong in that I said I don’t pay attention to her music, etc. If I didn’t pay any attention at all, I wouldn’t have posted my opinion here, because I wouldn’t have anything to base that opinion on.

Why are you so defensive? Do you have a monetary stake in her career? Or have you invested so much of your own personality in her that anything derogatory about her is a slap to your face too? I mean, you seem to be taking quite a bit of umbrage at my opinions about a disposable pop star.

I don’t want to sound like an old man, but what would inspire a woman to get giant tattoos that read “TOO HOT”, one word on the front of each thigh?

Please tell me they’re temporary. I know one can put out a casting call for “skanky women with decent dancing ability that have their bodies covered in prison-quality tats” and probably get a good turnout now, but still … shudders

I’m seeing a very, very traditionally gorgeous girl there. The fact that people are calling her ugly and butterface/manface really disheartens (and confuses the hell out of) me. It makes me think American media hegemony has more people convinced than I thought that “beauty” is extremely narrow and specific, and exactly how they define it.

Er. Link?

Edit to add: she has various tattoos, but none on her thighs that I know of.

First, I WISH I had a monetary stake in her career. I’d be rollin’ in dough by now!

And second, oh so sorry, you said you don’t pay much attention. I’m sure that means that you’ve maybe seen snippets of videos or heard some of her songs on the radio and that’s it, right? If that’s it, yeah, you don’t know a lot.

Pardon me, but when you say you’re not interested in a genre and don’t pay much attention to it, then no, I’m not going to think you have an informed opinion. Everyone has an opinion; that doesn’t mean they’re all equally informed. I can have an opinion on 1920s Finnish folk music but if all I’ve heard is maybe 3 songs and I don’t even know the context, musical history it came from or what they set out to do, it’s not going to be an informed one.

Fact: Toivo Kärki is a fucking hack.

Lady Gaga has a bony, long face, she wears tons of makeup, her videos are camp, as are her public appearances. She presents as a drag queen, as has been said. One who happens to be female.

You make a lot of assumptions. I know more than you think I do about her. I’ve heard more than “snippets” of her music and seen more 1 video. In fact, you are giving me the impression that you don’t know much about me, or you’d know that I’m one of the most informed people on this board when it comes to music, IMO.

And now you’re wrong about a third thing: why don’t you quote my post where I said I wasn’t interested in this (or any other) genre?

Again: why are you so defensive about this? Why are you taking it so personally?

You see, this right there is a great example of what I’m saying! Toivo Kärki CLEARLY recorded in the 30s and 40s, not the goddamned 20s!:mad::mad:

Omg, why are you so defensive about this? You’re probably like Toivo Kärki’s tour manager or something. . .

Fox News thinks of the children. Bless them.

Is it really banned from MTV? Now no one will watch it.

Fuck you MTV. You’re irrelevant now.

I think MTV has been irrelevant for a long time now. I’m old enough (27) to remember when most of the programming centered around music. Sure there were the “Love Line” and “Singled Out” shows, but we also had the weekly Top 20 countdown, Yo MTV Raps, and the Jamz Countdown with Bill Bellamy. And who could forget 120 Minutes? Now it’s mostly reality shows about rich bitches and their sweet 16s, being pregnant and 16, etc.

BTW, I don’t think Gaga is a butterface, personally. But I don’t think about her sexiness when I watch a video, as I might with other pop stars. I actually see talent and intelligence in her, and to me that makes her more attractive in a more profound, cerebral way. She is the kind of person I’d like to have a conversation with.

Yeah, I was going to say, does MTV even show videos anymore? Who cares if they banned a video? They weren’t going to air it anyway.
