You know, I have to say: I love it when popstars actually try. The video is kitschy, over the top, and just generally entertaining.
For those of you that don’t know, Telephone is the second half of what started with the Paparazzi video.
Anyway, I dig the styling throughout- the makeup and clothing is just amazing. My favorite line, though, is the one in the title of this post. Too funny. I will say: I think the product placement is both stupid and annoying, but meh.
I always think the Dope Gaga discussions are interesting. So, what do you all think?
I’d been sitting on the fence between loving and hating Gaga, but this one is definitely love love love… it’s John Waters meets Faster Pussycat meets haute couture, all rolled in over-the-top Gaga.
My only complaint is that the blatant product placements in her videos have got to go.
I really like the theatrics and the visuals. She’s trying…but the damn music is just NOT THERE. It’s no fun to listen to, so it’s no fun for me to watch. Ah well…
Her video for Paparazzi was an homage to Vertigo. This video looks like a Tarantino shout out. They have the Pulp Fiction fonts, the nicknames (Honey Bee), and the Pussy Wagon.
I was wondering if Beyonce would take on Gaga’s style for Gaga’s video. She did, and looks awesome doing it.
Yeah, I definitely agree that Telephone isn’t her best song. In fact, I’d go so far as to say that Telephone is the weakest track on the Fame Monster by far. I have an inkling that maybe the Haus of Gaga knows this, too, since the song is really not in this music video much, weirdly enough.
Some guys at work were talking about how Lady Gaga looks like a guy. I’m going to point them to this video and tell them they have pretty fucked up ideas of what a guy looks like. Stupid bastids.
You’ve got a point though - I love Lady Gaga, don’t get me wrong - but if she’s going to make mainstream dance-ish music, she could really do with getting better producers or something. Perhaps Beyonce could pass on a few numbers.
I quite enjoy Gaga’s out-there visual sense, but so far all of her music (that I’ve heard) is samey-sounding bland Europop. Too bad.
Nevertheless, interesting videos (this one plus ‘Paparrazzi’). Her and director Jonas Akerlund (who’s apparently been making music vids for at least a decade, but I’ve only just heard of now) seem to to be a match made in…well, a Heavenish sort of place.
She can… depending on what kind of freaky outfit she happens to be wearing. This video really shows off what a damn nice body she has - I was surprised myself.
I liked it. A somewhat generic song but a well-made video.
As for the state of Lady Gaga’s genitalia, she performed at a concert recently in a high-cut leotard. During her dance, the crotch of the leotard shifted and she showed the world what she had down there.
I actually do like Lady Gaga’s music–it’s fun, hooky, got a great beat, what do you want? The problem I have with it is that most of the tracks I’ve heard sound like they’re straight from mid-90s Eurodisco. “Bad Romance” especially is one tune I could have sworn I heard fifteen years ago in Eastern European nightclubs and was surprised to learn it was a recent track. For all I know, this may be the schtick she’s going for on her albums for the moment, but I’d be curious to hear her with a slightly more cutting edge dance sound.
