Add this to the list of “Movies That Shouldn’t Be Made But Will Be”: Knight Rider!
That’s right, David Hasselhoff, the most popular singer in Germany, and star of Baywatch and Baywatch Nights, and the upcoming Baywatch Reunion movie has just inked a deal to do a[ulr=“http://www.knightrideronline.com/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic&f=2&t=000007”] Knight Rider movie to be released in 2003! Oh Goddess, will the crapfest never end?
(Sorry I can’t find the CNN link on this one.)
Now I’m giggling madly, hoping that they get a really old guy to voice Kitt. He could complain about how he’s always leaking gas and oil, about how his axles ache… Oh! And he’d drive really slow in the fast lane with his right blinker on! Yeah!!
Oh, my god; it’s in imdb. It just might be true. He’s putting his singing career on hold??

Jesus! Did you see what they have below that?
WTF? Bond is waaay cooler than Knight Rider ever could be!
Apparently it’s also going to have someone playing his kid in it too! Man, this movie is going to blow dinosaurs!
Why are you guys poo-pooing it? Didn’t you ever watch Knight Rider on TV?
I’ll be upset if they use Eddy Murphy for Kitt’s voice, and he’s housed in a Mustang.
But I’m looking forward to it.
And they better play the theme song.
I have a theory about the crapfest.
Movies are expensive to make and if they bomb at the box office, studios lose big bucks. So studio execs will green light any old piece of crap that has name recognition - whether it comes from a
comic strip (The Phantom),
comic book (X-men),
cartoon (Rocky and Bullwinkle),
video game (Wing Commander),
book (Starship Troopers), etc.
I’m not saying that movie adaptations of these things always suck (I liked X-men); it’s just that if they’re guaranteed to make a fair profit, there isn’t much motivation to worry about quality.
Originality = Risk
and
Marketing > Quality
I realize my ‘theory’ is obvious and won’t strike anyone as brilliant insight. Please just consider it a rant.
