I don’t. I really dislike them. My mom used to make me wear them (whole or half, depending on the outfit) when I was younger and I hated it. I haven’t worn one in years and I don’t plan on starting, either.
Most of the skirts I own have linings, which seem to make a slip unecessary. If I’m concidering purchasing a skirt and it looks as though I’ll need a slip to wear it, I don’t need to buy it. I rarely wear dresses, so it’s not an issue.
Some women, however, don’t feel dressed if they’re wearing a skirt or dress without a slip.
I try to not have to. I try to get light dresses in a pattern or color that won’t show undergarments. I really never gave any thought to the silhouetted show of legs through a thin skirt/dress - I guess it bugs some people, but I figure if you can’t read the “Tuesday” on my underpants, I’m all good.
I hate extra stuff, like slips, and pantyhose. Especially in the summer. Why should I have to wear all this extra stuff? I’m trying to keep cool, for Chrissakes.
Depends on the skirt. If it’s unlined or very thin then yes. If the slits don’t line up I’ll skip it. I think it looks worse to wear a double slitted skirt and have the slip show through. Tacky, tacky.
FWIW I love wearing skirts, mostly in the summer though.
Almost never, but then again I almost never wear skirts/dresses. But when I do, I try to get something that doesn’t require a slip - either something lined or something made of a material that just doesn’t cling.
The last time I wore a dress was the Sister Mary Sleazy costume for Halloween OhDope. I couldn’t wear a slip then, as it was slit almost up to my hip and of course I didn’t want to hide the garter belt and stockings.
Nope. I don’t own any dresses that are sheer enough to require it. It scandalizes my mom, though. My main reason though is I hate hate HATE the feeling of nylon/silk (except for tights or pantyhose) and can’t bear it on my skin. All of my undies/bras are cotton.
I have two dresses which require slips. One is a cream colored, ankle length dress and I have a long cream slip to match. The other is a black spaghetti strap cocktail dress. It is made of the jersey material, so I have a black, strapless, body-hugging slip to wear underneath.
I have plenty of other dresses that don’t need a slip. I don’t think I have any skirts currently in the clothes rotation.
I wear skirts every day. About half of mine require a slip, because otherwise they’re see-through enough that I’m uncomfortable. I have this cotton one that I’ve had since I reached approximately adult size about a decade ago. It’s really really dingy, somewhat stained, and has a couple of holes. I hate the feel of the nylon slips against my legs (I only wear those if I’m wearing tights or pantyhose that my skirt would otherwise cling to), so I’m keeping my cotton one until I find a new one or it falls completely to shreds.
I don’t even own one, which would shock my mother if she knew that.
I also don’t own any skirt that is longer than knee-length (because I’m 5’3" and long skirts look weird on me), and all the ones I have are lined or non-clingy, and dark-colored. Sometimes I wonder if I ought to be wearing a slip, in principle, but usually I just look in the mirror, make sure nothing scandalous is showing, and go on my way
I have only one skirt that requires a slip. Unfortunately, both skirt and slip are extremely sheer and you can still see through. I’m looking into buying a slip for my slip now.
I wear a full slip under most dresses and skirts. I prefer the consistency of the silky texture against my skin. I like the way the thin extra layer allows the fabric to move. I like the shsh shsh sound it makes when it rubs against my tights.
I don’t own a slip.
I only own one dress, and it’s my funeral-a’goin’ getup.
I never even thought to wear a slip with it.
Maybe that’s why all those old fellas seemed so oddly happy for a funeral…
I have two slips. I wear them when they are clean and the skirt is made of thin or transparent material. Otherwise, I don’t bother with them. If I do happen to go out with a thin skirt and no slip, I don’t freak out about it and I don’t see why anyone else should. It doesn’t really show any more of my legs than a pair of shorts or a bathing suit would.
I have a few slips in a variety of lengths, very short to one that’s pretty long. (Though I HATE wearing half-slips; the feeling of extra fabric sliding around at my waist drives me nuts.)
Can’t say I enjoy 'em or not. They’re just utility clothing. Mostly I wear them if the skirt is especially sheer, if I want the extra warmth or if they help the skirt hang/move better. Unless there’s a good reason TO wear one, I don’t.
And AMEN, The Mermaid! Nothing looks tattier than someone fluttering lingerie outta side or back slit dresses or skirts. Either buy a shorter slip or go without!
