Game devs still don't get it in 2017

Have you? We already went over the definition of stealing. You might want to re-read the thread if you’re not able to keep up.

I’d have added a link to that post but the original 1828 dictionary site has gone offline and the current ones are missing those definitions. Thankfully, Google digitized other dictionaries from that period and searching for the exact definition brought those up.

That is priceless.

I think I’ll listen to my better nature and let our interaction finish on that delightful little nugget. It is clear you stopped listening or comprehending some pages ago.

And steal from developers that don’t. I have been following this thread, and you appear to be the confused one. Jophiel has been right on target.

You may want to have it checked at the shop. It keeps telling you that stealing stuff is okay if you can rationalize it as “not really stealing”.

more fool me for checking back into this but what you’ve stated here is completely false and I can’t let that pass

Tell you what, you go back over my posts in this thread and carefully read them this time. Then quote back to me the words I used where I say that I pirate or “steal” games.

No, I suspect you’ve looked at it which is a different thing altogether. Had you truly been following it with even a rudimentary level of comprehension you couldn’t possibly have made your accusation above based on the actual words that I’ve written.

So off you go now, back up what you’ve confidently stated. You won’t be able to but there is no shame in apologising if you have the stomach for it. I don’t hold grudges.

I went back to review, and I do admit I went awry. You were correct; I skimmed something I shouldn’t have. Mea culpa, and apologies. Your position way up there on that high horse is justified.

I withdraw. No more posting while at work.

I’ll buy games I like, and games I find intriguing, and games that I’ve seen LP’d and look the shit (btw, fuck you Sony for coming down on LP’ers), and games I’ve already bought a long time ago but want a digital copy of because what the fuck and it’s only 3 bucks. I’ll kickstart games by known Good Guys, I’ll Early Access games that should be encouraged, that look different, or games by studios who got something right before and maybe they’ll do it again.

I will not buy games by editors who’ll put Fuck You™ DRM in 'em, period.
If I am interested in these games, I’ll “steal” them (just as I’ll steal any game before I buy it, because you fuckers won’t put out demos any more, I’ve been burnt so many times before and I won’t be fooled again (YEAAAAAH)) without a second thought. Fuck me ? Fuck you right back, editor. You’re hurting the people you’re supposed to represent, you don’t even care, that’s fine. Don’t expect respect.
If I can, and if the game’s good 'nuff, I’ll buy other games by that same studio. I’ve even sent dollar (well, euro) bills in the mail a couple of times.

But toxic DRM can go suckle on Trump’s toxic cock. I will not support it or anything like it in any way, shape or form.

I agree, it’s almost like that.

Not a problem. It is only the equivalent of a pub discussion after all and I have done exactly the same thing on more that one occasion. Plus it is only a high horse in respect of what I have actually written and dislike of being misquoted, I don’t claim any great moral perfection.

On a slightly different note, anyone remember how Street Fighter V cost full price, and by now has come out with something like 60 bucks worth of core content DLC (that is, DLC that basically any serious player would feel forced to buy)?

They’re doing it again.

Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite is a game I’m really looking forward to. I loved Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 (I was the best German player for much of the game’s lifespan) and the sequel looks great. It’s also running a business model that makes it considerably more expensive than most AAA games. They’re using the game as a “platform”. That is, they sell you the full-priced AAA game for about 50€, then they expect you to drop another 30€ every few months on a new season pass indefinitely.

And keep in mind, it’s not exactly like this game is drowning in content. The last game in the series featured 50 characters at launch; this one has 30 at launch. Same thing with Street fighter - Ultra Street Fighter 4 had 44 characters; Street Fighter 5 launched with 16. It feels more and more like they’re just stripping the content out in order to

In what fucking universe is this okay?! 60€ for a 2D fighter is fucking steep. Hell, 60€ for any game is pretty fucking steep - that same cash will buy me The Binding of Isaac with all its DLC and dinner at a decent restaurant. But taking a full-price, premium game with all of its ins and outs and stripping it down like this to make it a “platform”? That’s weak. I mean, it made sense when Killer Instinct did this, because Killer Instinct was designed as a “platform” from the start. You paid nothing for the game, and bought the characters in seasons. But this is trying to pull that same stunt with a $60 premium game.

And of course it comes with Denuvo DRM. Because of course a game with a heavy multiplayer focus needs that.

That’s nice. Can we agree at least that people who don’t pay for games, who only pirate them, are worthless parasites who make us look like fools?

Can you give me some examples? Because of the 184 games in my Steam library, I can’t think of one whose DRM had any real negative impact on gameplay.

You certainly made some random clerk or secretary very happy.

Worth bumping this, it has just come to light that in 2014 the E.U. commissioned a report on pirating movies, books, TV, music, games etc. and the effect it has on sales.

Looks like they didn’t like the conclusion and so never published it.

It seems like they were happy to go on and quote the bit about the recent films but not the rest of it.
