[GAME] Naval Action

An early release, well at one time*, on Steam. This is a realistic Age of Sail game that looks similar to games like World of Tanks and/or War Thunder.

*Evidently when the pre-orders were released there were so many pre-orders that paypal thought it was worth looking into and froze their account.

Normally I am very leery about buying pre-release but this looks like it could be good.

You tube video by The Mighty Jingles that got me interested. A 35 minute video where he and 3 people he knows are on a team:

It looks like there might be some type of exploration, trading and some other stuff, but the PvP from the first video is what got me.

What do you think? Does this game have a chance?

More game info about different ships from SideStrafe, a youtube person.

Ah, I think your thread may have not received attention because previously the [GAME] tag indicated that it was a thread game, not a discussion about an actual game. I’ll report and see if they want to remove that.

I think there’s been a dearth of naval combat sims and I’m not quite sure why. Managing ships is pretty interesting, especially if you end up performing multiple roles like managing crew, damage control, etc. Outside of submarine sims, there’s been very little in the genre.

I would love if this was basically a more serious take on something like Sim Meier’s Pirates! where you can attack ships of other nations, hunt pirates, be a pirate, trade goods from port to port. I have no idea if something like that is in the plans, but I’d definitely be in for it.

Thank you Senor Beef!

In the first video there is a little bit of damage control, you can focus your ship on sailing, gunnery, survival, and perform repairs on your hull or sails. There is a plan to have nations and pirates and talk of trade routes between colonies but I didn’t read too far into that because the ship fighting looked phenomenal to me.

To me it seemed very much like Sid Meiers Pirates or at least it has plans to be like it.

You can trust Jingles. I’ve watched countless hours of his videos as I am also an avid WOT gamer. The naval games appear boring in that they lack the strategy and skill WOT requires, not to mention a thorough knowledge of all the maps that a sea game wouldn’t provide.

I will admit that the Naval Action game has some pretty great graphics.

I loved Broderbund’s The Ancient Art of War at Sea. I am so going to get this game.
