I think we have had a lot of those spoiler discussions in the past and seam to have arrived at a reasonable understanding that is working as well as can be expected, so maybe we don’t need to do it all again here.
There’s no need to go that far, as long as they can restrain themselves. Though, I could do with much less “I could tell you X, but that would be a book spoiler, so I can’t.” Well, duh… I don’t quite understand the point of such statements.
ETA: Ideally, we shouldn’t even be able to tell the difference between someone who has read the books and someone who hasn’t. Problem solved, and no need to bar anyone!
Dude, that’s kind of insane.
ETA: I mean I sorta understand the impulse and the strong desire the unspoiled have to remain that way. But you do realize how unreasonable your statement sounds, yes?
OK, I can agree with that. The Unsullied are on the show; I want to remain among the Unspoiled.
That is no mere “guy.” That is the voice of Ferb from Phineas and Ferb! Show some respect. Also, he was the boy in Love Actually.
damn it, I have a definitive answer on this but can’t remember if it was touched on in the show. the conversation I’m thinking of WAS in the show (questioning Lancel about the wine) but I can’t remember if the show had the whole conversation.::fidgets::
I still sit and think"even for HBO how in flying monkeyfuck hell did they manage to get that past censors?" and then go scrub my brain with bleach. again,
I suspect it has to do with percentage or purity of Targaryen blood, would explain the incest.
Ok, let’s stop this hijack already. Yes, for the purposes of the thread, the books don’t exist. To say “I’d tell you, but it’s a book spoiler, so I can’t” is pointless threadshitting. Speculation is an invitation to discussion, not an invitation to spoilers or hinting at spoilers, since they aren’t part of this thread.
its one messed up society where only those who watch tv may speak and literate people are dissed for chosing to read.
I’d never heard of the bloody books til the first episode, read them all by the third. I have enthusiasm for the story, in whatever format it is told. I should have a fair right to express it and discuss it as anyone else, and am trying very hard to keep separate what has occurred book vs movie. The movie so subtly hints at a lot of things the book expands on further, it is not easy.
the rules are really simple, this thread is for the show not the books, in this thread the books simply do not exist.
ug why does this same conversation have to happen every damn season? multiple times? is is really that hard for people to understand the concept of NOT SPOILING STUFF FOR PEOPLE WHO DO NOT WANT IT TO BE SPOILED?
Yes, you are the one-eyed man in the kingdom of the blind. We gutter-dwelling tv watchers are in awe of you and your fancy book reading.
There’s a whole damn thread for people who’ve read the books, go there, knock yourself out.
Okay, guys, part of the reason we have these hard rules for these threads is to avoid this sort of bickering that derails them. If you feel the need to discuss the rules of these threads, take it to ATMB or the pit.
Those of you who remember when we tried to do 1 big thread in season 1 remember what an utter trainwreck these things were. The separated thread format since then has been very successful in part because we didn’t ruin the threads with this sort of stuff.
I will reiterate. No one is trying to keep you from discussing stuff from the books. There’s a dedicated, active thread for that purpose. BUT FOR THESE THREADS, the TV show will be treated as its own entity, the books don’t exist, do not answer questions from people who are speculating or asking about the books, do not hint at the fact that you want to say more but you can’t because it’s in the books. Just treat the TV show has its own entity.
Now please, stop discussing this. Start an ATMB/pit thread if you really want to bicker. Let’s not repeat the mistakes of the past and ruin these threads.
They made the books into a TV show!?
Mod Note:
This isn’t a perfect system. It’s just the best one we have at the moment.
The intent of this system, which was devised for the previous seasons, is to allow the people who only watch the TV-show to discover the story at their own pace. People have myriad reasons to only watch the TV-show. By your join date, you might not appreciate fully how ugly this got in earlier seasons.
Last year, I had to make these threads Officially Special in order to keep the peace. I’m loath to do that again, but I will if I have to. Because even that would be better than the constant backbiting bickering that spilled out all over the board during season one. (And in PMs, thread reports, e-mails and so on and so forth. Not to mention all the trolls I had to garrotte to keep the season finale secret until its’ time.)
SenorBeef now courteously maintains the tradition of a No Spoilers thread for this crowd. That doesn’t mean that we forbid people from discussing A Song of Ice and Fire as an adaptation of a beloved series of books instead of just a TV show, it just means it has to be kept out of this one (weekly) thread. And that’s not a great deal to ask.
ETA: Ack, blinked and didn’t realize that Snarky_Kong was the thread-starter this week. Tip of the hat to you, Snarky_Kong.

Several characters have said that Jamie has been a prisoner for “a year”, so there’s your time scale for how long the war has been going - more than a year, less than two years. I think it’s safe to assume that GoT years are the same length as real-world years.
Obviously seasons are no help, since “Winter Is Coming” for years on end. heh.
Pregnancy/birth could help hammer down some timelines, maybe. Who was the pregnant wildling that fat guy was into? Gilly? She was very pregnant (third trimester) last season when he met her, then gave birth this season a couple episodes ago.
There was no indication that it was a different pregnancy, so it’s a reasonable assumption that maybe a few months passed between season 2 and 3.
No, they made novelizations of a new HBO show.
You wouldn’t believe how rich and detailed the novelization of the first season of Flight of the Conchords was.
Yes, I know that. I saw the TV episode. I was just wondering if the princess had possible Targaeryan blood.
