It’s his “Emmy, please!” gesture. Meaning that scene was Dinkage’s Emmy highlight reel.
Remind me, did Tywin ever even figure out she wasn’t a boy?
In his very first interaction with her. A guard is all “Shut up boy or I’ll kill you” when Tywin rides up and is like “That ain’t no boy dumbass.”
He did design a saddle for a disadvantaged person in season 1…
She wanted Joffrey dead to protect her great-daughter, and Littlefinger offered that. It was more important to her than any political goal. That’s my take on this.
I’m surprised that so many are criticising Danereys for attempting to listen to 200+ people requesting her presence, saying that of course she should assign someone to this.
Isn’t that the whole point? Following on from her not taking advice on board about mercy and then finding out that she’s crucified someone that fought against what she crucified him for, we are being shown that Danereys is out of her depth. She has no idea how to be a leader. She deals in absolutes (only a Sith etc etc), has no idea how to go about ruling and all the places she has freed and moved on from have fallen apart.
Rulers during the middle ages would hold such courts and receive petitions or deal judgements in person. What she does seems perfectly fitting to me. It doesn’t mean she will always do that or that she won’t appoint judges.
Actually, even today, in Saudi Arabia, members of the royal family will personally receive petitioners.
Did he have Ser Purell help with that?
Also, the dragon did not kill the boy. The boy just wished he had worn his brown pants that day.
Agreed. Plus, what else has she got to do with her day ?
She might delegate some of the tedium to Jorah and name him Hand of the Queen - Ned did the same for Robert back in season 1 didn’t he ? So did Bran & Maester Luwyn while Robb was away. But what she does is pretty much what responsible feudal lords do when there isn’t a war going on : listen to their people and fix the shit that needs fixing.
She does need to figure out a more permanent solution to the dragon feeding problem though. Otherwise even if she’s generous with the cash settlements she’s going to foster the Great Goatherder Uprising of 1376.
Ned Stark was drafted after Jon Arynn was murdered. It’s been established that Robert Baretheon was primarily interested in warring and wenching, and didn’t care much for any other duties as head of state. He not only let his Hand deal with supplicants, but he also was notoriously absent from Small Council meetings. Baretheon might have been a formidable warrior and great leader, but he was a shitty head of state.
(I apologize for any name misspellings)
OK, the facebook recaps have been getting a bit repetitive, but then all of a sudden, bam! comedy gold:
“Who could sit more comfortably on a chair made out of swords than a man unburdened of his scrotum”
Didn’t they broach this topic back in season one? I remember Jorah basically saying that he’s too dishonorable and wouldn’t make a good Hand.
Ah, thanks.
I may be mis-remembering, but at some point didn’t Varys show Tyrion a prisoner he had locked up in a chest? The guy that cut off his stem and berries? I would have thought Varys would have been more careful about testifying against Tyrion after that.
Why ? He was some Essos wizard nobody ever heard about.
Plus I doubt Varys wouldn’t get some sympathy with a plea of “yeah I killed him, but he was the guy who took my fruit and veg. With a knife. Serrated. No anaesthesia.”
I think I remember something similar to that. I think that was in the context of ruling in Westeros though. Across the sea, she should/could make him her hand even if they understand it is temporary.
How does that give Tyrion any leverage? Who in Westeros gives a shit about some foreign aged “wizard” locked up in a box.
It’s the same as the question of using slave soldiers: they believe it would compromise her standing and her legitimacy.
How so? The only problem I really see with Ser Jorah in that sense would be his reputation in Westeros; in Essos (Dany is in Essos, right?) he’s an unknown.
Its the whole if/when she gets back to Westeros question: sure Ser Jorah’s an unknown in Essos, but in Westeros, his reputation is a) highly tainted and b) that of a slaver. If Dany comes back to Westeros and it becomes known that she put him in a position of power, she’s basically tarred with the same brush.
