Game of Thrones 5.02 "The House of Black and White" 4/19 [Show discussion]

Is there anyone Cersei actually likes? Aside from her brother-lover and her children, I don’t think so.

Well given how much she hated Tyrion since the day he was born she probably liked her mother, who died giving birth to Tyrion.

Cersei seems quite keen on Maester [del]Frankenstein[/del] Qyburn.

Whoever brings her wine.

“Maester Mengele” has the virtue of being alliterative.

Just saw the Denzel Washington/Ryan Reynolds spy thriller Safe House, which is pretty good; the actor who plays Ser Davos Seaworth on GOT has a small role as a British agent.

I dunno, Robert loved his wine too, but he hated Lancel.

Probably, at the start, you’d want the littlest rider you could get. Some sort of … small person.

Imp-sized, if you will…

As to the Braavos/Assassins relationship, I got the impression it was society-wide. I mean, if your whole city’s traditional greeting references death, I’d say it must be almost a pervasive thing.

Maybe it’s just me, and I’m not accusing GRRM of designing countries as one-note as Eddings, but I see Braavos as Drasnia-by-the-Sea. It wouldn’t surprise me if the whole place is run by the magical assassins and Not-Jaquen is their prince. Which is cool, I always liked Silk…

Maybe they’re similar to the Masters of Sinanju.

There’s also the Iron Bank of Braavos, which is a very big deal.

I’m thinking the magical ninja assassins may well be the enforcement arm of the Iron Bank. Which would mean that defaulting on your loan is very much not an option.

I think he just loved to mock and belittle him, but didn’t actually dislike him.

Being the first sword of Braavos was supposed to be a big deal too.

:: sigh ::

I miss Syrio.

Too bad Meryn Trant didn’t…

Braavos has kind of a Venice like feel to me—center of banking and trade, money can buy skilled swordsman and magical assassins, lots of water, one of the “free cities” — makes it sound like the Italian trade-based chain of city-states of the Renaissance

I was laughing to myself about what it would look like if they dropped boulders on enemy ships passing through.

Or did he?

Is Meryn Trant the King’s Guard that is always with Cersei?

Yes, the one that killed Arya’s sword instructor also. And testified against Tyrion during his trial.
