Game of Thrones 6.05 "The Door" 5/22/16 [Show discussion]

Pretty much exactly that, yeah. Send a raven to the Citadel, let them disseminate it. Fuck, send ravens to every major kingdom and let them tell the people. Westoros may not have the printing press, but ravens are a vastly more efficient means of communication than anything we had when we were at their level of technological development.

The magic of the people of the forest (which created White Walkers) and the three eyed raven (time travel kinda) seem related to the heart trees, which are related to the worship of the old gods.

I think this would be a wonderful thread of its own (nice rant, btw): things about GoT that you hate. Despite loving it, etc…plot holes, horrible characters, glaring inconsistencies, pointless story lines.

In a nod to Silicon Valley: every post would have to start with “Game of Thrones is totally awesome, but…” which would get abbreviated to GOTITAB.

From reddit: House Greyjoy is the worst House in Westeros.

Did anyone else notice that Jaqen H’ghar referred to the waif as “she”, instead of “a girl”?

This was either (a) a clue into the mysterious inner workings of the Faceless Men; or (b) a screw-up by the writers.

It’s neither. They’re allowed to use pronouns. It was commented in a recent episode about Jaqen also referring to himself as I/me.

I don’t always eschew pronouns, but when a man does, a man sounds more mysterious and edgy.

That thread’s attempt to map Game of thrones characters with their equivalents from *The Wire *is hilarious.

I loved how “lets just make a shit ton of ships and quit sucking” was not an idea anyone had come up with before.

Hmmmph. I demand consistency in my fantasy death cults.

[Tolkien wouldn’t have let that slip-shod stuff slide…he would’ve spent a year documenting Syntax of the Faceless Men in excruciating detail before putting pen to paper]

It would just make things too awkward and clumsy if they never used pronouns. Imagine a conversation involving three (or more) people!

“A man thinks a girl has a point about another girl.”

I think of it more as something they do when they’re emphasizing their nobodiness.

Which is probably precisely why it happened – there were 3 people in the room at the time.

I could see Monty Python doing a Faceless Men skit.

That could be brilliant.

I could see it winding up sounding a lot like “Who’s On First?”

How are they going to convince someone into marriage with zero dicks between them? I guess Yara could marry someone, but Westeros culture, being what it is, would probably mean the new husband would be in charge.

Dany can’t have children and already has a favorite dick, so lack of a dick is no impediment. Might even be considered a plus.

That scene where the Iron Islanders look out over the water at all the ships and exclaim “They took the best ships!” confused me. I rewound and watched it again, then again in slow motion. I saw no motion on most of the ships.

My conclusion is that they took maybe three ships, and all the rest of the ships we saw in that shot were just in their normal positions. It was the bay near shore that was empty due to the stolen ships being gone.

Convince me otherwise, because I found that whole thing confusing and frustrating.

Dany can’t have children? I mean, we all know that she miscarried Drogo’s child, but is it established that she can’t have another? Though I will admit to being curious about what sort of contraception she employs during sexy time with toyboy Daario.

The Children of the Forest were the original followers of the Old Gods, and the religion was then adopted by the First Men. The Children obviously have supernatural powers and this is related to the Old Gods and the weirwood trees.

The Lhazareen witch also showed supernatural powers in cursing Drogo and Dany’s baby through Blood Magic.

The Warlocks of Quarth have supernatural powers but it’s not clear what religion they practice if any.

I took it to be that the ships in the shot aren’t normally there, so he knew that they were being stolen. I expect that you wouldn’t be able to see much motion at that distance.
