Game of Thrones 6.05 "The Door" 5/22/16 [Show discussion]

I think Jaquen is going to turn out to be Syrio Forel, Arya’s old sword/dance instructor. And that’s why she gets special treatment from him even after she royally fucks things up at her faceless job.

Since this is a wild assed guess, based on nothing more than the fact that Syrio and Jaquen are both Braavosi and associated with Arya, I don’t think I need to spoiler it.

That theory’s actually been around for a loooong time; and its plausibility was helped by the fact that while we never see what happened to Syrio, we didn’t necessarily know what happened to the Kingsguard guy(s) he was last seen fighting, either. But then we saw him – Meryn Trant went to Braavos and Arya got him. Personally, I don’t believe that if Syrio was a Faceless Man that both of them would have survived the encounter.

Honestly, I think Syrio would have a better chance in that encounter taken at face value as the First Sword of Braavos. The Faceless Men seem to do their killing assassination style; poison, stabbings, and the like. Syrio was in a straight up fight and everything we saw of him suggested those were his strong suit. Sure, he had a massive handicap, but I don’t think him being a Faceless Man would have been advantageous.

I could see Syrio knocking Ser Meryn out, even with a broken wooden sword, and just getting the hell out of there, knowing that more troops were probably on the way. I’d like to think he then made his escape from King’s Landing. Whether he’s actually Jaqen now is even iffier - could be, though.

I’ve actually been rewatching series 1, and (although I didn’t take note of it at the time) Syrio makes reference to the many-faced god, saying, after asking Arya what gods she believed in, “There is only one god, and his name is death.” (Or something along those lines.) I’d previously thought that this death-god religion was unique to the faceless men, but of course, another interpretation would be that it’s just a Bravoosi thing.

I took it as a Braavosi thing, I think their primary religion worships the many-faced god. We now know that the Faceless Men liberated and founded Braavos as we know it. So it may be the main religion specifically because of that.

But Syrio also said “And what do we say to Death? Not today.” That’s not the attitude I would expect from a Faceless Man.

I’m rather hoping (and purely because it would piss so many people off) that the real reason Sam’s dad didn’t want him to inherit and sent him away to the Wall is because he’s actually one of Robert’s bastards (his hair’s darkish isn’t it? And he’s fat…) and after everyone else is wiped out by either White Walkers or dragons, he ends up on the throne by default, with Gilly as queen.

There’s got to be some reason we’re still following this storyline - by the time he’s trained as a maester the series will have been over by a number of years.

Well, it’s a theory…

If you look at real English history, from which GRRM undoubtedly drew inspiration, at the end of the Wars of the Roses you end up with Henry VII on the throne, perhaps the dullest English monarch of all time…

OB

I know the cool kids in the internet generally despises shippers but I saw this and just love it with it, as us shippers are wont to do. So yes!

Tormund’s got Hungry Eyes.

(Sorry if already posted.)

Not yet posted and yeup, for sure them eyes are ravenous.

The next up video of the actors out of character is also a lot of fun. How GoT changes you!

The hell is a “shipper”?

Dang, never would have expected Varys was once as handsome as that headshot.

The most hilarious thing is Brienne’s reactions. She’s more flustered by Tormund than she was by the bear.

Someone who advocates romantic relationships between characters.

From “relationshipper.”

Or writes fan fiction involving same. Not that we would.

Unless they’re the same sex. Then it’s a slasher.

I think.
