Game of Thrones 6.05 "The Door" 5/22/16 [Show discussion]

There were preseason previews that showed Jon Snow alive?

Last we saw Podrick was when Theon was leaving them. He should still be with Brienne, maybe the actor had other commitments.

The plan was to make Roose Bolton betray the crown by marrying his son to Sansa to boost his northern cred. Then he went to Cersei and said “hey look, Bolton betrayed you! Let me go up there and take care of him, and make me Warden of the North”

He planned to sweep up the remnants of Stannis/Boltons after their battle with the Vale’s army and get official sanctioning/reward for it. He assumed Sansa would be safe enough for as long as that took. But she was treated much worse than expected, and escaped, and Stannis went down without a real fight, both things foiled his plans significantly.

As always, Littlefinger is playing several games at once. He’s trying to get the Boltons to believe he’s supporting them against the Lannisters, when he really wants them knocked out fighting others so he can sweep in with the fresh forces from the Vale. He convince Sansa to go along so she can ultimately get revenge on the Boltons. Of course nobody in the game can be trusted.

I don’t doubt it. He wouldn’t have been shown escaping the Red Wedding unless he was going to come into play in the future.

I don’t get Bran’s story line. We get a brief glimpse of cool stuff and then nothing more. Who’s the guy, who are the druid chicks, what’s their conflict with men, what’s Bran supposed to do, etc. I’d take an exploration of any of those topics over another stupid fucking Arya training montage any day.

That said, this was a great episode that moved things along. The Iron Islands and Dany hook up seems obvious in retrospect. Not sure how I missed that coming. The North/Little Finger/Ramsay story line continues to make little sense but at least it’s moving on. Thankfully we were spared from the Sparrows for an episdoe.

Arya learned, from watching the play, that Sansa married Tyrion. I wonder how that will factor?

Sansa, now that I think about it, (and I could be wrong) has been bundled up from the neck down ever since her escape. She admitted Ramsay cut her. I hope we’re not going to see some horrific wounds (but we probably will.)

I picture a pitched battle, with Brienne and Tormund fighting the enemy like fiends. The battle won, they stare at each other across a field of the wounded, dripping blood, chests heaving…

Excuse me while I lay down.

It was just a flash in one of those half second per shot trailers, “Jon” in the Wildling/Bolton battle. Just speculation, but the speculation was on at that point.

Hey, Sansa has two husbands. I bet she wished she was nicer to her dwarf husband now.

Which really doesn’t make any sense because LF can’t possibly hide the fact that he brought Sansa to the Boltons; indeed one would expect the Boltons to trumpet LF’s involvement to keep him away from the Lannisters. Cersei would have to wonder how LF got a hold of Sansa and then LF’s screwed if he goes to King’s Landing.

Pod didn’t have any lines, but he was onscreen last night. The scene where Jon & Sansa & party are on horseback ready to ride out (and Tormund is making eyes at Brienne), Podrick can be seen on a horse behind Brienne. I am 100% positive because I remember being sad he hasn’t done much lately.

I think he probably could hide that fact. The Boltons themselves don’t want it to get back to the Crown, and what advantage is it of theirs to tell everyone Littlefinger brought her? Communication is slow in this world and no one is omniscient. There’s a decent chance word wouldn’t get back to her in any short time frame. And even if it did later, she’s a weak ruler beset by problems, and Littlefinger would now have the power of the Vale and the North behind him - possibly Riverrun too.

I think she did come to care for him somewhat. Of course she’d have probably been killed if she’d stayed in King’s Landing with him.

My main problem with the writing of the series is that there are two absolutely irredeemable Snidely-Whiplash-with-sexual-perversion eviler than evil villains- Joffrey and Ramsay- and both were engaged to Sansa. The writers just absolutely want that poor girl traumatized any way they can.

I’m waiting for her to learn she’s pregnant. If she is, surely she’ll abort.

Why do all zombies need to become superhuman spidermen, travelling at super-speed, crawling on walls, digging through earth and rock? I prefer the zombie that’s less than human, that destroys by an unending evergrowing tide of shuffling death.

Did the question of bigamy come up before she married Ramsay?

I don’t think she was physically attracted to Renley. He had been kind to her when they were kids and all the other boys had been cruel. She almost certainly knew he was gay, even if she was somewhat in denial.
I could definitely see her warming up to Tormund.

I think she was attracted to Jamie.

Littlefinger told Roose the marriage to Tyrion had been unconsummated and Sansa was still a virgin, so the marriage was invalid. He (charmingly) offers to have her inspected but Roose says he only cares about her name.

This episode was tightly packed with things to consider. Another one is Vary’s point about all those “Promised Ones” the Red’s keep talking about. Not only did Melisandre say Stannis was the chosen one, she also said Jon was. And I thought it was the Prince that was Promised. How could that be Dany? It seems that the religion that shows all the magic is the worst at prognosticating.

Yeah, I was taken out of it a little bit because it was weird for them to be running along the ceilings of the cave, it looks like just about as fast as the zombies running on the ground.

He doesn’t say what words the voice in the fire calls out. I hope we find out. This story usually answers questions eventually but hardly never the way you’d expect.

Problem with the translation? Red Woman #3 says The ONE that was promised.
