Bah, that was a thinly veiled goad, and a total dick move on Bran’s part. “You’re a good man.” = “You’ve almost atoned, you’re doing great, just one more thing you need to do…”
I think it’s clear that all Targaryens are not immune to fire. Viserys died by having molten metal poured on his head. It’s not fire, but Dany is shown being unharmed by similar non-fire-based heat.
While the first time Dany was unburnt, powerful blood magic might have been the cause of that, rather than magical genetics, the second time in the Dosh Khaleen was just an “I’m going to burn this place down and laugh among the flames while the rest of you die” situation. The only explanation is that she’s fireproof, and furthermore knows she’s fireproof.
Also,
I’m pretty sure the showrunners explicitly said she was fireproof during one of their “after the show” segments.
He still died too easy. I wanted Ghost to rip out his neck and feast on his entrails as revenge for Theon’s dick move in Episode 1.
I can’t recall what he did in Episode 1.
In any case, Theon’s dick ended up moving to another time zone without him.
Benjen Stark pulled him out, gave him his horse then “died” getting mobb3ed by wights so Jon could make his escape.
How Jon avoided hypothermia is either Jon is immune to the cold or plot armor.
Volunteered to kill all the dire wolf pups until Jon convinced Headless Ned they were a sign.
I don’t think volunteering to do something in theory that was rejected minutes later and never recurred is proportionately answered by having one’s neck ripped out. He actually did far worse things not in theory.
And he paid for those by getting his dick cut off. But he never paid for threatening the pups. Some things are just truly unforgivable.
Thanks for that link! Always good to be reminded of what a badass Jaqen was/is. The actor was perfect for that role.
Knows everything and is good for colon health!
Yes. Reminded me of the Batwing soaring above the nighttime clouds in the first Batman movie.
I have to disagree. For me it’s not so much about destination as the journey. All of the characters’ experiences, even the blind alleys and the events which led to nothing else, helped make them who they became. And not everything IRL is of mythic significance, either. Sometimes what happened to you two weeks, two months or two years ago is utterly unimportant.
Robb’s direwolf also sensed the bad craziness of the Red Wedding despite being penned up.
Y’know, I could really go for that! That would be a pretty cool twist.
Ahem. There are no books.
That was exactly 100% my take on the scene.
Throwing out theories…
Has anyone noticed that GoT is an allegory of our current world?
What is everybody in the U.S. talking about and watching news coverage of 24 hours a day? The upcoming presidential election. It’s no different in other countries, with them obsessed with their local politics.
Sure, that’s important and vitally so. But we are actually facing an existential threat to the human race: climate change and global warming. Nothing we do can be more important than having everybody get together and fight what is effectively “Death.” Yet most people are apathetic when not downright scornful and antagonistic until the reality slaps them in the face.
Will all the nations get together and fight for survival? Not until some charismatic leader steps up and binds them together.
That’s where the analogy breaks down. Unfortunately, there is no one convenient kill point that will end the climate menace. That’s why fantasy is fantasy, and will always be looked down upon.
And to carry the analogy full well, then climate change will be easily reversed sometime around mid-2020 without too much fuss, so that now whoever has the best claim to have solved climate change has a leg up in the true battle, the 2020 US election.
There were two decent scenes in the whole episode. The fight between little Lady Mormont and zombie Wun Wun. And the moment shared between Sansa and Tyrion. Plus some mildly interesting visuals. The Dothraki charge (another ridiculous tactical move standard for GoT) and the wights coming over the wall for example. Any scene with dragons being notably absent from this list.
The rest was trope galore. Arya can not only change faces now but fly too!
I noticed the allegory as well. And yes, as you point out, the real-world equivalent of climate change doesn’t have some magical fix. But yes, people are like Cersei and more interested in gaining and acquiring power than they are in dealing with the existential threat.
Emilia Clarke said on Jimmy Kimmel that episode 5 will be more epic than this last one… It sounds spoilery imo but disapointing imo that that battle will be bigger than the one against the dead… to note that the director is the same guy so I dont know what to think of that.
Mod Note: Edited to spoiler information from an interview.
Colibri
Sounds kinda spoilery so you thought you’d come and post it in the non-spoiler thread!?
Hopefully it won’t be entirely at night.
This one will be at night and under water.
I don’t know, we already did the “one of our protagonists is sinking deep in water with no way to escape but is miraculously fine next week with no explanation” scene last year. I think we need something new. Maybe drop our protagonists off a 5000 foot cliff, with no chance of anything but going splat, only to find them just fine for no apparent reason two scenes later.
