Game of Thrones - how long to go?

I have been assiduously avoiding GoT out of fear that it would not be finished and I would be left hanging. So is this the last season, or is there a season or two to go?

Or, can I start binge-watching now?

This is the penultimate season. It is shortened as will be the last season. So it’s more like a season and a half.

Also may or may no be the penultimate book. It was supposed to be a trilogy originally. I’m completely resigned to him dying before they’re finished. If he gets them out and they return to the quality of the first 3, then that’ll be a pleasant surprise.

GRRM posted a couple days ago that we might get it in 2018. I think this year is right out.

Still holding out hope that he’ll finish the last two books at the same time, possibly publishing them a year or so apart, but that hope is very faint.

Still, I only started reading them a few years ago. I feel bad for the guys who’ve been waiting since 1996.

I started in 2001. Thought “oh, it’s only been like a year or two between books, I’ll be reading about Tyrion again in no time!” Then it was 5 years for the next book and didn’t even have any of my favorite characters. Yeah, it’s been a pain.

And, yes, I know you all want to know about THE WINDS OF WINTER too. I’ve seen some truly weird reports about WOW on the internet of late, by ‘journalists’ who make their stories up out of whole cloth. I don’t know which story is more absurd, the one that says the book is finished and I’ve been sitting on it for some nefarious reason, or the one that says I have no pages. Both ‘reports’ are equally false and equally moronic. I am still working on it, I am still months away (how many? good question), I still have good days and bad days, and that’s all I care to say. Whether WINDS or the first volume of FIRE AND BLOOD will be the first to hit the bookstores is hard to say at this juncture, but I do think you will have a Westeros book from me in 2018… and who knows, maybe two. A boy can dream…

I thought he said you would have either TWOW, or Fire and Ice, a new full history of Targs up until some point or other. And given the latter is largely written, I’d know what I’d put money on.

So sort of in the words of GRRM:

“Ice Age is Coming”.
