Personally I love Dorne, so I’m actually excited that we’ll be delving deeper into Dorne and Doran Martell’s scheming. We do need a good actress for Arianne Martell though.
I agree. I enjoyed the Dorne chapters and Arianne is in my mind one of the alluring women of Westeros. I even liked her brother’s story, although it ended in failure. It was more entertaining than the Young Griff story.
Why, would you look at that? Miss Sansa done made herself a dress out of them Portieres!
That’s quite a change of character and plot.
So they’re getting rid of fake Sansa?
Jeyne Poole was fake Arya not fake Sansa.
This might have been my favorite sentence in the history of The Straight Dope, if not for the obvious oxymoron about people from Mississippi forgetting how to read.
Sansa revealing herself was certainly a change, but I’m more interested to see how the heck the writers get out of “Arya at the Vale”.
The Unsullied think The Mountain survived the fight. I’d like to correct them but 1) no book knowledge and b) who knows what the show will do?
The Mountain did survive the fight, for a week or two.
Also, I’m fairly sure the three betrayals have not been mentioned in the show.
O.K., then. What were the three betrayals in the book?
The three are as such:
Thanks Reverse.
So is Jorah gold or love? I’m thinking if you count the fancy, gay, rich guy who kept proposing as gold, then Jorah would be love. But, then again, Jorah did not betray her for gold or love, did he?
Oberyn got his epithet for allegedly poisoning his weapons; I thought it was odd in the books that no one insisted on checking for it before this judicial combat. Maybe Clegane just didn’t care. I guess Oberyn also negotiated beforehand that he could use as many spears as he wanted, since his squire or whoever just tossed him another one when his first broke. That said, I don’t think that fight could have been adapted any better than it was.
Jorah was treasonous to her, arguably, for gold - he was paid as a spy for Varys. He came to love her but that was not his treason.
That or he betrayed her for the love of his home, since he was after his pardon more than he was gold.
Dany has already faced 5 betrayals:
Mirri Maz Dur – for blood (revenge)
Jorah – for gold? (reinstatement of his Lordship)
Xaro – for gold (reinstating slave trade in Meereen)
Brown Ben Plumm – for gold
Hizdahr – for power?
However, Dany is not sure if Xaro’s and Ben’s betrayals count towards the prophecy. Seems like no one has betrayed her for love yet. And Hizdahr’s betrayal is not certain, the poisoner could have been Reznak.
The battle here was mostly one sided. Oberyn dominated easily until his stupid gloating killed him. I do not recall him doing so well in the books.
I am sorry to see that actor go. He has been fantastic in this role. Never heard of him before this.
So, as. Moat Callin (sp) was in the fifth book, we are now no longer in book 3 part 2 as far as the secondary stories are concerned?
Uh, they get told Lisa is dead and they leave? i thought that was obvious.
He had did do that well in the books, although the mountain did kill a bunch of bystanders. The only way to win was to completely dominate, if the mountain got you even once you’re toast.
Oberyn dominates even more in the book. None of that being kicked or tossed or having his spear chopped in half.
Theon, Dany, Brienne, and Sansa are all in book 4 or later territory.
