Game of Thrones, Fire and Blood, 6/19/11

Last one folks, lets continue on our good behavior. This is the thread for the TV series only.

Recap of last week:

Varys visits Ned in the dungeon and implores him to admit his treason. If he does he’ll be allowed to take the black. If he doesn’t his family will suffer.

The northern armies march south, but have an obstacle at the Twins. Walder Frey controls the crossing, and he’s a treacherous old man. Catelyn bargains for their crossing, the toll being Arya and Robb are betrothed each to a Frey child.

Drogo seems to have fallen ill from his “fly bite.” Maegi plotting? Jorah begs Dany to flee before Drogo dies and they’re both seen as obstacles. Dany refuses and has Mirri Maz Dur perform blood magic to save Drogo. An encounter with Qotho ends with Dany going into labor, Jorah killing Qotho, and Jorah taking Dany into the forbidden tent to seek treatment for Dany.

Tyrion gets a new whore. He, Shae, and Bronn play drinking games and we hear about Tyrion’s painful first love. Robb surprises Tywin with a sneak attack. Tyrion leads his tribes in the battle, but is knocked out before it begins. Tywin is surprised again after the battle. It was just a decoy, Robb used the majority of his forces to capture Jaime Lannister.

Arya puts her cat catching skills to good use, nabbing a pigeon. She follows the crowds to the steps of Baelor. Ned is pulled out in front of the crowd and tells them that he conspired against Joffrey and wanted the throne for himself. Grand Maester Pycelle asks Joffrey what should be done. Both Sansa and Cersei asked Joffrey for mercy, but “they have the weak hearts of women.” Joffrey orders Ned executed. In the most intense moment of television I’ve ever seen, Ser Ilyn Payne beheads Lord Eddard Stark in front of Sansa and the people of King’s Landing.

Rewatching the previous one right now, and have come to the conclusion that the actor playing Catelyn has really grown on me. I never disliked her before, but now I can’t remember what I might have pictured her as; she suits. Very well.

I have no idea what I’m going to do with myself on Sunday nights for the next year. The NFL lockout ending will help a little, but my hopes aren’t high. This season went by way too fast.

I don’t want this to be over yet :frowning:

Ditto.

Well, that was just fucking spiffy. Excellent ending to an excellent show of an excellent series. It just kept getting better as it went along.

It’s a good thing they already renewed it; they left a lot of loose ends.

Perfect.

I can’t wait until spring! The tears as Dany smothered her sun and stars were ridiculous and I am ashamed of myself.

My dream of Drogo and his horsemen coming across the narrow sea and burning King’s Landing to the ground is only slightly changed.

Thank you, HBO, for not fucking up that last scene.

Amazing episode. Loved every single minute of it, even half-naked old man and Roz the Exposition Whore.

Who was the woman who told that guy to go back to bed?

Huh? hmm Cersei and Lancel?

Cersei, the Queen.

 Yes, whenever she shows up, we know we’re going to get tits, ass, and a monologue.

Kudos to HBO for a terrific adaptation. The last scene was perfect, and all the setups for season 2 were very nicely done.

Dany wearing her wedding dress as she walks into the pyre was a nice touch.

OK, right. He was the squire to King Robert (and much abused by him) and was a member of the Lannister clan. So Cersei really likes to keep it in the family. (Sorry that I keep getting the various characters confused.)

Dragons - adorable.

Varys and Littlefinger’s scene was a lot of fun…I like Varys more and more, and Maester whatshisface less and less, every time they’re on screen… Littlefinger, I couldn’t like much less after the betrayal.

So, does Arya end up at The Wall or does she get dropped off along the way? Does Sensa wait until her wedding day to cut Joffry’s balls off? And how long does it take dragons to mature? Also, Dany doesn’t have an Army any more, does she? Oh, and the blacksmith going to the wall. That’s Robert’s bastard, no?

Spring is too far away.

I never cared much about Varys in the books, but adore his portrayal in the series. Ditto Jorah Mormont. And the kid playing Joffrey needs more credit than he’s getting–Joffrey is a one-dimensional sociopath but he’s playing the role perfectly.

But winter is coming…
