Ah, that! I really should re-read it but there’s just so much pointless meandering a person can take.
They always get sacrificed by otherworldly witch women in Hammer Horror-type genres?
Tormund seemed to get an unusual amount of camera fixations, which made me wonder if the were the replacement. I kind of like the TV character, so I almost hope not.
I’ve learned that the credits mean nothing.
Melisandre is the character I’m most disappointed with appearance wise. Every year I go to DragonCon, a huge cosplay fan-con in Atlanta, and there are any number of from-the-book Melisandre’s who are MUCH better.
In the novels she’s Maureen O’Hara in her prime clothed in scarlet robes with a ruby amulet that supernaturally glows at times; in the miniseries she’s just “central casting Mary Magdalene understudy”.
I can comment on the direction of Sansa’s journey.
Yeah, the leaked episodes have her meet Ramsey(his bastard son) and she is engaged to him. It’s a horrifying thought.
It makes a lot of sense to do it this way. Book Sansa is faffing about doing very little. This gives Jon a much clearer (for the viewers, I mean) reason to go to Winterfell. No need to muck around with glamours and fake Aryas. Presumably Jon himself will do the bard thing (or some other pretense to gain access) and be the one to meet up with Theon.
@Sampiro Really? I disagree that she is doing a bad job.
I am wondering who will be left for Ayra to get revenge on, once she finally becomes a super assassin.
I really don’t think she’ll become a super assassin or she’ll go on a killing spree against those that have wronged her. That’s not this series.
In the books her list is: the Tickler, Polliver, Amory Lorch, Weese, Chyswyck, Dunsen, Raff the Sweetling, the Mountain, Meryn Trant, Ilyn Payne, the Hound, Joffrey, Cersei, Tywin.
The Mountain (kinda), Meryn Trant, Ilyn Payne, the Hound (probably), and Cersei are still alive. I could maaaybe see her killing Trant or Payne.
I believe you are supposed to take these issues to ATMB.
I was disappointed to see that they replaced the term “goodmother” with “mother-by-law.” They think TV viewers won’t figure out what that means in context?
Hmmm … I don’t know. There were some “meaningful stares” during that scene, now that I think of it.
We’ll see how it develops, but my take on the meaningful stares between Mance and Tormond is that if Mance really is dead, and it appears that he is, Tormund will be the one to take over as de facto King Beyond the Wall and thus be the one that Stannis works with when making agreements about the Free Folk.
What I’m most excited about (besides Arya’s story) are the changes to Sansa’s story, making her more of an active player than one acted-upon. From the trailers and a few hints in the first episode, it looks like she’ll end up at Winterfell, and if she ends up serving Frey pie at some point, I will be very happy indeed.
Book Sansa is actually learning how to be cunning and scheming. I really enjoy the Sansa chapters as she transforms to Littlefinger’s apprentice.
Actually, the more I think about it… I really, really hate the Sansa change.
I’m at least waiting to see it. Maybe it will work. I think of the books and TV show as two separate, but related, universes. Like two versions of a Batman story, or two King Arthur stories.
The show is getting rid of all the story lines that belong in a Tales from Mos Eisley Cantina addition of GOT and not in the main book. Who cares about a contender that gets roasted? Why waste time with that Poole woman if it comes to nothing? Why switch which wilding leader gets killed?
Will we see the Ironborn story or what happens to Cersei’s daughter (i forgot her name. It’s not Shereen, that’s Stannis’ girl and not Mereen cuz that’s where Dany is) in the desert? I wonder.
Question about the leaked episodes (which I don’t plan to watch except as they air but would like to know this about):
Does Lady Stoneheart appear?
I am not a fan of Chekhov’s gun, so I don’t mind storylines that don’t work. The Quentyn parts weren’t my favorite though. Theon will have to help Sansa and confess that her brothers are still alive.
I doubt it; no Ironborn casting has been done to my knowledge. Myrcella is cast and will be in this season.
No.
I loved the Poole subplot. I loved every part of the Cersei storyline.
They are all good stories but, as of yet, have very little to do with the plot. If GRRM had kept the side-stories to a minimum, the book series would be finished by now.
I am fine with the book and show diverging, but this show storyline makes no sense. I mean I can see Littlefinger doing something like that, but he’s a super cold-hearted bastard of which I don’t see Sansa being, regardless of how much she learns to play the game.
