Game of Thrones (season 5) BOOK SPOILERS!! TV SPOILERS!

Book? The guy they were going to burn or Tommen.

Show? Gendry or Tommen.

Tommen? Tommen isn’t in the line at all, neither is Gendry neither is Edric Storm.

Tommen Baratheon? By ‘it’ I thought you meant Dragonstone.

Is this your first time watching GOT?

Yeah, the line basically dies out with Shireen.

I’m really disappointed at what the show did with Stannis. Why tease us with rehabilitating his image, so it’s more book like, only to make him a villain again?

The throne. Tommen is illegitimate. If you want to call him Tommen Baratheon, go ahead, but if he is then Stannis doesn’t control Dragonstone as is since he’s a traitor. He’s just occupying it until he’s killed.

When was he a villian?

I’m not sure if this makes him a villian either. If Melisandre is an agent of the R’hllor, Stannis is Azor Ahai reborn, and sacrifice is necessary to prevent the another Long Night, then this is a good thing. The book definitely points to him being a false savior though.

Ahh. By ‘it’ you mean Stannis’s claim.

Yeah, Stannis had best either knock up someone tout suite or legitimize Gendry. Of course if he legitimized Gendry, then he would have some problems with his own claim.

It’s an interesting show when there’s a child being forced into prostitution by a pedophile and that’s the second most fucked up thing about the episode.

So anyway, I know that the unsullied are different in the show, but seriously. They’re a group of elite soldiers who would cut off their dicks and feed it to their puppies while learning six different weapons simultaneously. They can’t handle a few rich kids playing dress up? Wtf?

Yup, they’ve completely ruined Show Stannis for me. Didn’t like how they originally portrayed him, they made him a bit better this season, then went 180 and ruined him.

According to the show runners in this video, it was actually Martin’s idea. Which I’m not sure that I completely buy… it just doesn’t fit with what we know of Book Stannis, who is much more agnostic about R’hlorr and also much more insistent that Shireen be his heir. Heck, he even leaves Melisandre behind at Castle Black instead of taking her with him!

I can definitely see Martin coming up with the idea that Mel would want to burn Shireen, but I just can’t see Book Stannis ever agreeing to it.

Brutal.

I guess Hidazhr was actually honest then?

I take it the guy who almost killed Jorah was Braavosi… or like Roman gladiators, someone who adopted the fighting style of enemy warriors. Speaking of which: I see the Unsullied as like hoplites: meant for group phalanx battle, but weak when alone. That doesn’t mean that I don’t :dubious: over random masked nobles kicking ass.

Hebephile. Hebephile is what Ser Meryn is. Not Peadophile.

Well, we never got a close look at her ID. So I’d guess it’s up for debate.

Bonus question: What would Margaery Tyrell be?

The difference is that the girl that Trant settled on was probably something like 14, not 4. Same for Margaery, technically, I suppose, though the predatory aspect as well as the age differential is a little bit different.

Yep, agreed. I can see Mel and Selyse, seeing how ridiculous the snow storm is, and deciding to burn Shireen to help Stannis take Winterfell without telling him.

Tonight’s episode: IPHIGENIA AT ASPEN

What’s his choice? Let 20000 men- and his daughter die in the snow? It’s a horrible horrible choice, but I cant see any other thing to do.

Agreed. I think given the reactions in the no-spoilers thread that the show probably would have benefited by making it a bit more clear how totally dire the situation was wrt starvation and cold. I think people just assumed that there was some other way out, just because they’re used to there always being another way out if the protagonists are sufficiently virtuous/hardworking.

I think Stannis was thinking that just maybe there was - until Boltons raid made it impossible.

Uh… burning the people in his household who wouldn’t adopt his faith? Arranging to kill his brother via smoke baby? Cutting off some of the fingers of the guy who saved his besieged garrison?
