If Game of Thrones Took Place Entirely on Facebook–Season 5 Primiere
Just in case anyone hasn’t seen this sketch by Seth Meyers of Jon Snow at a dinner party, it’s totally worth watching.
Hilarious, thanks!
Is it interesting to others to see that Varys, called The Spider is rapidly becoming the most human and most empathetic character on the show?
To me he was already one of the more empathetic guys way back in Season 1/Book 1. I am talking about the scene where he meets the imprisoned Ned and begs him to confess as a traitor. Of course, he might’ve had ulterior motives (and he most likely did), but he also seemed to care, at least a little.
Ooo! Then I shall hold off and wait. Thanks!
Yeah, but I’m in Europe and too cheap to pay for international shipping. The Mystery Knight (I’ve got the graphic novel with the other two stories) is available in German, actually, but I’d rather read it in English. Out of curiosity, have you read Warriors? Is it worth reading outside of The Mystery Knight?
I love these so much. Stannis’ Yelp review! Burning Man!
I’m fairly sure non-pirated,electronic graphic versions of the stories are available on Amazon for about eight bucks a shot.
I’m not wild about graphic novels, novellas, etc. though, so I’ll wait to see if a new edition with just the stories is published.
The World of Ice and Fire was 20 bucks for the kindle version and 50 or so for a hard copy–my guess is it wouldn’t work on kindle though. Maybe I’ll put it on my xmas list.
Looking forward to meeting the Dorne characters tomorrow and seeing Arya again, especially since she’ll be wearing something other than the clothes she’s been living in since the end of the first season.
As with most collections of this sort, you take the good with the bad. Several tales are quite a bit better than GRRMs. A few are dreck. Worth buying at a reasonable price.
And they’re all available on Kindle.
Interesting that the fish-man is the most human…
It seems to me he has been since the beginning.
Also, not difficult.
To be quite honest, I haven’t read any other of the short stories in the collections, which makes it a bit pricey for one novella length story, I guess (Oh well ;)).
Here is a question for book readers.
-
Who is the legit king if we follow the bloodline? The bastard kid running around? Or is it Daenarys because her father was killed?
-
Does Stannis really believe he is the legit king? Does he know about the bastard kid?
-
What “bastard kid” are you talking about?
-
Bastards are not legitimate heirs. They have no right to their fathers’ names, forget inheriting kingship.
-
If you believe Robert was a legitimate king, then Stannis is his rightful heir.
-
If you believe that Robert was never a legitimate king, then Daenerys is the rightful heir of Aerys.
Gendry
Stannis.
Robert had as much claim as Aegon did. However, if you discount that I suppose it’s possible that Rhaegar married Lyanna and Jon Snow is heir.
Assuming Aegon is fake, of course.
Like Varys says in various (Varyous?) ways, power is an illusion – one’s actual claim according to law doesn’t matter; it’s what the population (and most importantly the nobility) thinks that matters.
If Daenerys comes back with dragons and half the kingdom flocks to her banners, then her ‘claim’ will be the strongest, regardless of whether it’s the “best” claim legally speaking. The same would go for, say, Edric Storm if he raised an army and started calling himself Edric Baratheon, as long as he actually got support.
I’m very much looking forward to seeing how GRRM resolves all this. I hope he has a plan, and isn’t just winging it, story-wise!
I am not sure if they have ever had a Queen Regnant. So, Daenerys may be ineligible.
Except that Rhaegar was already married to Elia of Dorne.
Another slow episode, hopefully things start picking up soon.
I am interested in seeing where they go with Brienne - AFFC is her slogging around inefficiently searching for the Stark girls, coming across the Hound and then Lady Stoneheart. In ADWD she pops in at the end to set the trap for Jaime. It would seem that all of those are off the table now - if she goes after Sansa it’ll be her and Littlefinger and a lot more interesting than trudging around the Riverlands.
